If this is a forum for BNL, and both BNL and Steve Page have made it clear that they are over and apparantly don't want anything to do with one another (initial politeness aside), why do people keep posting about Steve, his album, and his concerts on this site? Why don't people post those on Steve's website? I imagine that would be the appropriate place for those types of discussions. I'm not slamming Steve or slamming BNL, honest to goodness. Both sides of this divorce have enormous amounts of talent, creativity and, quite frankly, genious. I'm just saying since this is a forum on the actual BNL-owned website, why can't we have these discussions either on Steve's site or at least on more neutral "web ground", such as a different fan site? It seems like the most respectful way to go about things, for both BNL and Steve. And if there's anything they both need right now from their fans, it's kindness and respect. Everyone knows BNL's fans (and now Steve's fans) are the best in the world. I'm just suggesting a little space for our boys.

- He was in the band for 20 years
- There's no messageboard on his website
- A lot of people here are still fans of what he does

It's all posted in the Misc section instead of the BNL section anyway so I don't see what the problem is. If you're saying that we should stop talking about him altogether because he's not in the band anymore, well, that's just stupid.

You may have a point -- I have wondered whether at some point someone from BNL or their webmaster would step in and say "We'd rather not have discussion about Steve's solo career here" -- but the forum that might have been more appropriate, Barenaked.net, seems to have vanished.

If everything is in the Misc. section, I don't see any problem. That section contains topics far and wide that people want to discuss.

As a forum and chat moderator for a few other sites, I personally would never do something like that. Steven and BnL are NOT competing for fans right now - in fact, Steven is promoting his solo act as "Former Lead Singer of Barenaked Ladies!" I would agree not to chat here if Steven had his own forum up, but my educated guess is that the fans disgusted him too much during the drug bust and band split, so he doesn't want to open the floodgates for that on his site, nor do I think BnL would want to see that happening here. So, as long as we're being civil about it, why not come together and chat about the same artist we've been chatting about for a decade now?

As a matter of fact, I probably AM stupid seeing as I have an anoxic brain injury. It's so swell of you to point out my stupidity as much as possible.

McGerkey is the Dr. House of our forum. Normally I'd try to come up with a punchline but I think that pretty much sums it up.

CJ - Excellent analogy :)

Way to Skate - McGerkey didn't call you stupid; said the suggestion of not discussing Steve is stupid... there is a difference.

I think it's only natural that issues about Steve and his solo career will be covered here, as this is where people who care about these issues congregate.

I will now think of him as limping around with a cane and a scowl as he tosses out his cutting remarks.

Ditto. I think it's perfectly acceptable to talk about ANY non-BNL artist in this section, including Guster, Great Big Sea, Korn, Creed, Nickelback, Herman's Hermits, The Beach Boys, Liberace, Tiny Tim, Insane Clown Posse, Squeeze, Bach, Celine Dion, Michael Bolton, The Village People... and Steven Page. It just so happens that Steve used to be in the band that this forum is dedicated to. These things happen.

That's why it's "Misc." We can talk about toenail clippings if we want, as long as everyone is civil.

It is kind of overkill that there are multiple threads... but that's only -because- of his link to the band.

I said this on barenaked.net, and I am going to say it here.

It would be nice if there were a separate "Steve" section of the forum. Heck, make it a "BNL-affiliated music" section and include Brothers Creeggan, Thinbuckle, etc. I'm not saying it's a problem to have Steve discussions on the forum. I just like neat categories, is all.

Besides, that leaves more room in the Misc. section for Garyrulez to update me on his partner. :D
