Hi all! Is anyone else from Chicago going to the show in St. Louis on November 7th? Is anyone else staying at the Moonrise hotel? I thought it would be fun to hang with some cool, friendly people before the show. ;)

Hi! I'm not from Chicago and unfortunately am not going to the show back home in St. Louis because I'll be at the one in Tunica, MS, the night before, but just wanted to say have fun! The Pageant is a great place to see shows--it has a maximum capacity of something like 2000 and has a GA floor as well as seating in the balcony. I was disappointed to find out when they were going to be there...if it were even like a week later, I could totally swing a quickie trip home for it, but I just can't work the logistics this time. Hope you all get a great show! :)

Hey Jodie! Thanks for the good wishes. :) I got my tickets for the show and they are reserved seating with a section, row, and seat number, but they are on the main floor. I have a disability and have to walk with a cane, and I've done 3 GA BNL shows this year and was in miserable pain each time from hours of standing (at times I had to sit on the ground and hope I didn't get trampled to death! lol), so I was really hoping for an assigned seat this time so I could sit when the pain got too bad. But you said there was only seating in the balcony? Hmmm...do you think my tickets are GA? I'll still go, of course, I just need to know if I should take the mega dose of pain meds or a regular dose. LOL And Tyler...if you're reading this, I'm really sorry dude for scaring you with my cane. I know you thought it was a gun when I pointed toward you. I'll pay for the dry cleaning of your pants, brother. Don't worry...nobody could tell once you got behind the drums. ::D

Well, it was GA every other show I've seen there, but I'd imagine they can change things up if they so desire. I don't know how they'll do it for this one. A couple of summers ago, I saw the Foo Fighters at Scottrade Center (where the Blues play, so it's a huge arena) and though our tickets were supposed to be GA, they were also labeled with section, row, and seat numbers. There was a huge amount of consternation (because I wanted GA and GA only), with even Scottrade people telling us that if there were seat numbers printed on the tickets, then there'd be seats down there, possibly something like folding chairs. I was like  , but it turned out that they were incorrect and that the numbering system was, I guess, just a way to keep track of the number of tickets sold so as not to oversell.
I hope it all works out for you! If nothing else, maybe call the Pageant and see if they can do anything for you or what they'd recommend. Their number is 314-726-6161. Good luck, and have a great time! And LOL at the Tyler story! That's great!

I just looked it up, and it is about 4 hours from me, so I am really thinking about it....WTSK you and I are in the same boat, as far as mobility concerns go- and I can't see on top of that- but I cannot think of better medicine than Ed, Ty, Jim, and Kev...:) If I can persuade a friend to go and be the navigator/driver and if I can get good seats where I can see and sit if I need to, and the stars align just right, I might be in...and if so, would be happy to "pregame" at the Moonrise...

And for what it's worth, by coincidence tonight one of my FB friends just posted a RAVE review of the Moonrise. He mentioned gorgeous rooms, great food, wonderful staff, and apparently there's a rooftop bar that's not to be missed. Enjoy!

Awesome! I'm really glad to hear that from someone who actually knows someone who stayed there. I've read reviews of the hotel and everyone seems to like it. I wonder if the guys are going to stay there since it's located so close to the venue. When I was in DesMoines in July that's what they did. Someone told me they always stay at Marriott, but I ran into Jim at the elevator in the Embassy Suites in DesMoines which was right next to the venue they played. This concert is going to be great!

So jealous! Have a great time! That'd be awesome if that's where they ended up staying. A friend and I once ran into all of the Foo Fighters & their extended band in the lobby of a Holiday Inn Express, so you never know (of course, this was in Fayetteville, AR, and there wasn't a whole lot else right there, but still. Lol.)

Fair warning- mini rant to follow:(: I know this is the way the world works, and certainly, I should know by now that life is not fair, but I just have to bitch a bit about evil ticket brokers- It is just sad that someone who has valid mobility and vision impariments cannot get appropriate seats when sooooo many good seats are for sale by the brokers at ridiculously inflated rates..to be fair, the old Ladies Room used to spoil us and we never had to ever worry about decent seats- but I just have to whine a bit about my woes- all my rowdy friends have settled down and become responsible adults, and in the past I never worried if someone would flake on me, it was easy to find someone else or just go by myself, but now I have only 3/4 of my right foot, am blind in one eye-maybe will be better when the bubble they put in goes away-but no guarantees-have to deal with insulin, gluten free, kidney disease-constant labwork and dr appts and the truth is, I am at high risk for blindness, dialysis, and further amputation...and I still work and still try to do things- I have very good days-but the truth is that there will come a time when I really really cant' do this anymore-right now I can if I plan, but it really takes all my strength and stamina and depending on someone to help me...and I thought I had it figured out that if I called the venue directly, someone could help me, but I guess that depends on the venue- evertime I got online it said contact the venue, and then the venue told me go online and no one really knew the answer...The lady I talked to at the Pagaent was very nice, but couldn't do anything for me- she said there really wasn't a bad seat in the house, but I don't know...I was able to stand through most of Louisville, but had to sit through most of Cleveland-my blood pressure was low.. and you worry about getting through the crowd if you don't feel well, and the lighting is always low, and it is hard to see even with 2 good eyes...
The brokers are charging 198 per ticket-there should be a special place in hell for them.
I still don't see Indy or Cinnci in the new presales-although I imagine that there will be dates through the holidays?? So I am torn-I could take a chance that I could make it and that since this sounds like a smaller venue, I might be able to see and to stand or get lucky and not have people standing in front of me...I really won't know how well much the eye surgery I had has helped for another 2-3 weeks (and to add insult to injury- I still have a black eye after 3 weeks-and if one more person makes some joke about getting into a fight or asking how the other guy looks, I will barf on them) I guess I just need to make up my mind. Sorry for being Pitiful Pearl, thanks for listening.
It is not likely that there will be shows through the holidays. In talking with Ed and Tyler after the Cleveland show, they both said 11/26 Massey Hall, Toronto was the end of the fall North America tour.

Aw, sorry to hear that! I hope you're able to get something great at Indy and/or Cincinnati to make up for missing this one if you decide not to go. And not for nothing, but I loved your method of revenge for people joking about the black eye. :)
I don't know if this helps give any idea of venue size or not, but this photo (with no zoom) is from when I saw Flogging Molly there in Feb. 2009. I was standing on the rail on the 2nd level of the floor (it's like a couple of steps up from the main floor...we were there instead of on the main floor because it got more than a little rowdy down there). I've never seen a show from the balcony but if memory serves, the front row of it wasn't too far back from where we were, so it's still not terribly far from the stage if you were to opt to go that way.

Belyha you are not a Pitiful Pearl. You have some legitimate challanges that effect your being able to go to a show. It's very frustrating and, believe me, I can completely understand. It's especially frustrating when the venue won't seem to accomodate a disability. It's not like you are looking for super-special treatment. You just want to have the same chance everyone else does. I hope the photo posted by Jodi helps you make this decision. What about bringing binoculars? I have some from a play I went to a few years ago that are really basic, but they seem to work well. If you decide to go to this concert I can bring them with me and you can use them if you'd like. They even have a string for around your neck. LOL It's not a magic bullet, but it might help.

I agree with Kate, you've got a good reason to rant considering the venue was so remarkably un-helpful. I have noticed the disabled seating in the venues that offer them are are often to the side and at the back. It seems they don't even consider that some people may need to be up front because of legitimate vision impairment.
I hope you decide to go anyway. I'd suggest you take a companion willing to wait around by the buses after the show with you - meeting them in person goes a long way to making up for crappy seats. Other Ladies' fans heading that way too will most likely be helpful in making sure you get there. We are usually the cooperative kind....not the competitive kind! ;)

Thanks to all for the support. BNL people are the best people I know I don't really know.
Jodie-yeah I think barfing would be good for those kind of ppl- I had to be awake during all but the first part of the surgery and I wasn't feeling anything, but remember everything and talked thru the whole thing and at one point, the doc told me I was doing great or something and I said something to the effect that all drs. are sadists and that I thought I was going to throw up. then I did, but since I was flat on my back and they couldnt move me, I only hurt myself.. Anyway, saw him for a follow up today- he said it looked good, no blood in the bottom of my eye, which means the gas bubble has stopped the bleeding like it is supposed to and that it was still 60% full, so probably won't go away for about a month, and then hopefully I may have some vision back in that eye...
SOO...if it was the old days, I would just jump in the car and go- but I really need someone else to do the driving and just be there w/me if I get sick- and since it is a sunday it has to be someone who loves me enought to take the full day off..and has the flexiblity to do so-I have someone who might- so I am going to try to talk her into being adventurous-she is not a concert person- but I told her that I am not either, and BNL is more like a religious experience. So maybe...WTSK if I do, I will get in touch with you- and anyone else interested-in meeting up.
What is sad is that there are many seats that would work for me for sale. by extotionist bastards. I would pay it if it were just me-it would stick in my craw, but I would do it-but I can't ask a non-BNL fanatic to pay that much and cant afford to make up that much of a difference...
Belyha, I have good news for you. A Cincinnat show should be announced very soon. It is listed on Jukebox the Ghost's facebook page, as they are the opener for much of the fall tour. The date is November 10th at the Taft.

Glad to hear the good news about your eye! Here's hoping it continues to improve and that your non-fanatic friend a) agrees to go, and b) gets converted! :) I successfully converted my non-fanatic friend that I dragged to the show in Tampa with me to the extent that we're goin' whole hog & have Barenaked VIP tickets to see them in Tunica, MS, in November. Of course, once someone's seen them live, the rest of the conversion process is usually pretty easy. :D

Belyha, I am so glad to hear about your eye. It's amazing what just 15 years of science can do for treatment of this complication. And, according to Goof, it looks like you will be getting your Cinci dream! And you're absolutely right about the religious experience. I converted my cousin over the summer. LOL

Thanks guys! I talked to my friend- and she is thinking about it- we have always talked about doing a roadtrip together, but she is working, going to school online, and both her parents are having health issues, which mean she probably would love to escape, but circumstances might not be her friend... any way- I am going to call that venue in Cinnci TODAY to get a jump on whether or not they can help me and exactly who I need to talk to. I think the reason the Nautica was able to help me was because it was still presales when I called them and they had not sold all the good seats to brokers...but I wish we got more notice before presales-you just really have to be fast, don't you?

So for my 30th birthday yesterday, one of my gifts from my wife was tix for the St. Louis show!!!! Got Tier 1A, Row A.....which appear to be good seats from all the seating charts I've looked at. We'll be coming up from Dallas(yes we know there are closer shows to us but we've talked about a mini vacation for awhile now) on the 5th or 6th and possibly staying at the Moonrise hotel.

We might be up for a little pre-game before the show. Like I said in my previous post, this is a mini vacation for us so we'll be getting into town Friday night and staying til Monday morning. We have been doing our research about the area for stuff to do on Saturday. I figure on Sunday we'll just stay around the hotel/venue for most of the day til the concert starts.

I will be there and I can't wait! I do have one extra ticket if anyone is interested in purchasing it from me for face value. It's 4th row and $47.00.
Newe08 - I would recommend City Museum if you're still looking for things to do in St. Louis. I will also be taking a mini vacation there and I'm looking forward to going back to City Museum almost as much as seeing Barenaked Ladies!

Lisa,
We're getting our schedule pretty much set. We're leaving early on Fri morning and it's about a 10 hour drive so we'll be pretty tired when we get to the hotel that eveninng.....probably just grab some dinner and call it a night. On Saturday we plan on doing the Anheuser Busch tour and going to see the Arch......depending on time, we're not sure what else we'll do that day. On Sunday we just plan on hanging around our hotel/venue(since we're staying at the Moonrise Hotel) and just get ready for the concert!! Does anybody plan on going to the Halo Bar either before or after the show?
WayToSkateKate
11-02-2010, 03:33 AM
I'll definitely be up for some Halo Bar pre- or post-gaming!! :) I got a message on Facebook that the show time had changed. Has anyone else heard that?

Kate,
My wife and I just talked about doing some pre-gaming and/or post-gaming......of course it might be one of those play it by ear type of deals. Probably won't stay too long after the show as we have to get up somewhat early on Monday to drive back to Dallas(10 hour drive). Also, trying to figure out if the guys will come out afterwards plays into part of the decision.
I haven't heard anything about the start time changing...what is the new time? Originally it was doors at 7, show starting at 8. Just checked the Pageant's website and they still have the orignal times as well.

I haven't checked the website for The Pageant. Their fb page shows a headline with showtime at 9pm now. But elsewhere on the page it still lists 8pm. Oh well. Guess I'll find out day-of. I'm planning on staying after the show to see the guys if they come out. I'm from Chicago, so I'm not familiar with the venue. Maybe someone who's from STL will know the lay of the land and point me in the right direction. ;-) As far as pre or post-gaming....I'll play it by ear as well. I'm going to decorate my cane with BNL stuff so if anyone sees me, say hello!!

We flew from Seattle for this show, and are now comfortably ensconsed in the Moonrise Hotel. This is a terrific place to stay! I was looking to get some airmiles racked up, got a terrific deal on airfare from Alaska Air, and with $45ish dollar concert tickets, I felt it was meant to be!!!!
We are looking out right over where the buses are parked for the show going on tonight, I guess we will Finally be able to stand outside and get our pictures with the guys (in a non-cruise, non-VIP ticket setting)'

The guys were excellent in St Louis!! They seemed to be having a lot of fun and their energy was great. I wish I could say the same of the audience. Wow....were they lame! Except for a few pockets of die-harders like us, hardly anyone was on their feet. We got yelled at by people behind us to sit down (of course, we didn't!). Most of the people around us just sat there and rarely even clapped. It was absolutely bizzare. Ed and Kev and even Ty tried to get people to get up and dance. By the time they sang "One Week", "Pinch Me" and "$1,000,000" people finally got up. No wonder they do so many GA gigs...it's gotta be a downer to play your heart out to a bunch of people who look like they're napping. ;-) Anyway, the guys were great after the show. They came out and signed autographs for everyone who waited and did pictures as well. Best part of after-show was when some woman asked Kev to autograph her ass and Kev kinda recoiled in horror and said "I'm NOT gonna sign your BUTT!" It cracked me up. So Ty signed it instead. LOL By the way...is it just me, or has Kev's voice gotten a lot stronger on this tour? He sounded amazing!!

I noticed Kev's voice sounded stronger as well, though everybody seemed in top form on Sat. night. Sucks that you guys had a lame crowd! Ours was tiny (the venue holds maybe 1000 tops, and there were probably 150 or so who were GA with us) but LOUD. I kept looking around (while trying to get back to the front of the stage after having to leave it for the meet & greet...grr) and there were more people than not singing along to every song, not just the ones you'd expect. I was quite impressed, especially after being scared of how many comps and whatever there might be there due to it being a casino gig.
Newe08

I have to agree about the crowd being pretty lame for the show. Another fan even made the comment "Who buys a front row seat to sit down?" as there were a few people in the front sitting most of the show. I couldn't help but notice if Ed was feeling a little under the weather that night. It seemed to me that he missed some notes on a few songs plus he appeared to be taking cough drops/throat drops for most of the show as well as drinking hot tea.
Overall it was an amazing show, very cool to hear Blame It on Me in the setlist...really enjoy Ed singing on that one. My wife and I both noticed that Jim's double bass wasn't there as he was just playing the electric bass all night. Not sure if that's been the case so far for the first few shows of this leg of the tour or if it was just in St. Louis. I was gonna ask him out by the buses but it was about 12:30 and he still hadn't appeared from the venue yet(someone said he was visiting with family). All the others were great to talk to....always love talking about hockey with Tyler. On a side note.....since we stayed at the Moonrise hotel, my wife and I loved walking down Delmar. Well on Sunday morning as we were walking to the Starbucks down the street, we did see Ed and his son walking down the street(probably coming back from Booster's as he mentioned during the show). It was cute to see Ed and his son dressed exactly the same. We didn't want to stop and bother him as we figured he was enjoying the time with his son.

He didn't have the double bass the night before in Tunica, either. We were also wondering what was going on with that.
SO jealous you all got to hear BIOM! I would have loved that one! Ours was a pretty standard setlist, though I was thrilled to get I Have Learned.

Yeah the setlist was pretty much the norm. Although when we saw them back in July, we had more songs from AIGT played. In St. Louis, it seems like they took those out and replaced them with BIOM, Get in Line, and TITNIFAATW,

Nope!!! Actually we drove up from Dallas so we talked about the Stars(don't get me started on them) and the Maple Leafs. It was funny cause I had mentioned the Maple Leafs to Tyler and then he started talking about the Blues. Well I had to inform him that we were from Dallas so then he just went from talking about the Blues to the Stars like it was nothing.

Ha, that's awesome! I had all these grand ideas of stuff I was going to talk to the band about when we met them (including hockey--I was a Blues season ticket holder until I moved down here in August), and all of it promptly flew out of my head when we were face to face. Ty actually kind of sneak attacked us...it's like we turned around and BAM--there he was. I never did recover. Lol.

:confused Did they all come out?? At the Cincy show just Ty and Kev came out and Jim and Ed snuck out the backdoor. Someone said ( finding this one hard to believe) That Ed snuck out the backdoor to avoid fans.He said one of BNL's staff said this.
WayToSkateKate
11-10-2010, 09:16 PM
Some guy in the crowd waiting for BNL after the show told me that the guys don't like signing autographs anymore. I told him he was nuts....BNL *always* signs and does pictures after the shows. I guess it was this guy's first BNL concert. But he said one of BNL's "people" told him they don't do autographs anymore. Could have fooled me. Ed, Ty, and Kev came out and signed, took pics, made jokes, and generally made every single one of us feel like they cared about us having a good time. I didn't notice anything different at all about this after-show. I have no idea who has been saying they don't interface with the fans anymore (and who the mysterious "BNL people" are that keep getting referrenced), but I don't think it's true at all. In fact, we called out to the guys to bring Sharpies out with them to sign our CDs and stuff because as devoted as we all are, apparantly not a single one of us remembered to bring a marker or pen or anything! Ed seemed to have a good time with that fact. LOL Jim did not show up for autographs while I was there. One of the staff said he was inside talking to his family on the computer. So I don't know if there was a problem at home or what, but he didn't show. But the way I looked at it was if there was something going on with his family, that should be his priority anyway.

Lucky Ed came out. I saw Jim early in the day so getting him wasn't a big deal and I saw Ed early in the day but he was with his son so being a good fan I didn't hassle him. It could of been one of the venue staff that said that. I mean not necessarily BNL's staff but the venue staff and people got confused because like I said I don't think BNL would diss fans on purpose. I have been following them since 97 and they always come out. Last year Kev, Jim and Ty snuck out before the fans came out and Ed stuck around. Maybe the venue is telling them not to do that. I don't know......I am confused.....

Yeah I find that very odd that they wouldn't like singing autographs anymore. I look at it as an added bonus to the show. Think of all the groups that don't come out and sign or take pictures after the shows, BNL fans get very lucky with that. As for all 4 of them not signing after a show, I guess it all depends on the situation. Sometimes they might be extremely tired, not feeling well, talking to family as Jim was doing in St. Louis. I remember back in 06 on the BLAM tour, Jim was really ill at the show in Ft. Worth, TX and he was right on the bus after the show so everybody understood why he wouldn't come out.
As far Cincy show, it was the 4th show in 4 nights so it could've just been that Ed and Jim were tired or ill. I did mention in an earlier post that Ed did seem a little under the weather in St. Louis but it might have been just me noticing. If that's the case then maybe it was catching up to him. Heck, even Tiny came out and signed a few things and talked to some of the fans for a bit in St. Louis.
Until the band comes out and says "no more aftershow autographs/pictures", I wouldn't look too much into it. It's probably just the venue security saying that stuff anyways. I'm sure they just want to get home and they don't get to leave until the band is all done signing and the crowd is gone.

Ya I kinda figured as much. I think it might be the venue security. I mean they can be rude at times. Like one time in Lexington the venue was being total buttheads but Fin ( I did really like him) made sure fans got things signed. That's why I miss Fin sometimes:(

Yea, I didn't believe the whole "BNL doesn't sign autographs anymore" thing at all. The fact that they come out after shows and sign, take pics, and chat is one of the 2 million things that makes them so amazing. They have always said that their fans are amazing, which is cool because we fans say the same thing about them. Even their opening acts and other bands comment on how cool BNL is and how cool their fans are. Mostly, it's just one big love-fest. LOL

On another subject, what do you all think of Jukebox The Ghost...their opening act for this fall US tour? I really liked their music and I bought their CD at the show. Quirky guys; great for opening BNL!

I thought they were OK...I was too distracted talking to people and trying to work my way back to the front of the stage to pay as much attention as I probably should have. Also distracted by the fact that none of them looked older than 15. ;)

I can't remember the setlist for STL. (I have an anoxic brain injury that damaged my memory capabilities) I know they opened with "Old Apartment", as is the norm on the AIGT tour. The Snacktime song they did was "Eraser". And they did "Brian Wilson" in the encore, which was cool since it was the first time I've heard Ed sing it live. I thought he did a great job. Hmmm....I know there was another change-up that I'm not remembering because they didn't perform "Aluminum" as they have at other shows on this tour, so they put something in that slot. I really really really wish I could see them perform "Lovers In A Dangerous Time" in person. That would rock!

See what I mean? No memory whatsoever. Got the order of the songs wrong, even. It's a wonder I can even find my way to a concert. Thank goodness for GPS.

Kind of off-topic for a sec, but you all are so nice on this post. ;)
Is Kevin married? If not, has he ever been married? I know about his daughter, but never heard much else about his life (other than the leukemia).

Yeah I'm not sure either. Now that I think about it, I know alot less about Kev than the other 4 band members.

There still playing the same setlists all the time. Not surprising. I'm glad I didn't go to the Toronto show this month. What made BNL shows special is that you didn't know what the setlist was gonna be, there would always be surprises. Not anymore sadly.

The setlistfm list is almost right but the order is a bit wrong where Blame it on Me is concerned. Here's a shot of Ed's setlist when it was still taped down. I've rotated it so it reads right side up: http://www.thelope.com/images/10-11-07-208.jpg
