I have not heard of most of these songs so I guess radio isn't as bad as I thought. :)

Is it bad that I like a lot of the songs of that list? :S lol

I liked several of them, too and especially The Counting Crows cover of Big Yellow Taxi. Seemed like the author of the article just had a big hate on for CC and this was his/her way of getting it all out.

Most of that stuff I've never heard of. I like Kryptonite, though.

The writing style of that article reminds me of the guy who went on the cruise.

I listen to mostly "talk" radio, so I never hear actual "songs" on any regular basis. When I do listen to regular radio, I can honestly say that I don't think that they'd play any of the songs on that Top Fifty. I have to agree that the remake of "Big Yellow Taxi" is ghastly.

For some reason I have a hard time listening to someone who ends the article calling the artist a dickhead. I thought it was about the worst song, not the worst artist, singer, performer, writer, whatever.
It seemed like the person was also just really upset because the song meant something to them and they didn't like the way it was remade.
I hated the remake of Daydream Believer (can't remember the name of who did the remake right now), but mostly because I grew up listening to the Monkees version and loved it. So I kind of understand their feelings, to a point. The article was overly harsh and often not about why it was the worst song, but why the people who made it sucked.
Just as note, I haven't heard the Big Yellow Taxi song.

The funny thing is that I can't stand Joni Mitchell, but I love the Counting Crows remake. To each his (or her) own, I guess. :)

One of the radio stations in Boston will play the Counting Crows version with Vanessa Carlton, and another station only plays the version with all Vanessa Carlton scrubbed out of it.
Strange.

I prefer the Amy Grant remake. Counting Crows make me want to stick forks in my ears. LOL!

I love Counting Crows version. I love the original release best, but it is a fun song.

Didn't Simon and Garfunkel do Big Yellow Taxi?
I used to call CC the Counting Blow Crows because all those bands were so generic back in the day - mid-90s I guess. I find them irritating, unoriginal and pandering to the lowest common denominator.

It is a Joni Mitchell song.

The problem of a list like this is that the truly worst songs of the decade are the ones that no one ever heard of. These only count as the worst songs that were, for some ungodly reason, actually popular. Or semi-popular. Or performed by well-known artists.
The most truly horrible songs would never make this list, because no one ever heard them. Not that this is a shame.
And for the record, the Big Yellow Taxi remake is horrid. :)

I have a love/hate relationship with songs that are named based on a random lyric - on the one hand, it's intriguing - on the other hand, fewer people will remember it because it's not the "hook" of the song. What else would it be called though? "Paved Paradise?" Meh.
(as an aside, Nancy's totally wrong, the Joni Mitchell version is way better)

And now I believe I'm one step closer to venn diagramming *our* musical tastes. :p

I like the Counting Crows version, but it always sounds like they sing "They paved paradise and put up a f*cking lot..." lol
