View Full Version : Should Ed start singing some songs without a guitar?

Now that Steve's gone and Ed has become the main singer, I would love it if he did what Steve did. It was cool how Steve would sing some songs without a guitar and simply walk around the stage and hold the microphone like most lead singers do. Since Kevin is a good guitarist and can play lead guitar, this is something that Ed could easily do. It would be a cool visual and something really different.

Honestly I like what Ed does. Though it would be cool too if he played drums oh god he can drum;)

why did you completely edit your post? I saw what it said before you edited. you said he performanced without a guitar once and he was uncomfortable, when was this?

I have to agree with Appleblossom, I think the guitar is just part of who Ed is- but man oh man did I love him drumming on "Alcohol"- and Tyler singing-it was a fun, Barenaked Freaky Friday moment..and I'd like to see them mix it up even more- they all are extremely talented- it would be fun to see them do an interactive audience type thing, where they were hidden and played a solo on some instument and you had to guess which Ladie was it?

I'd LOVE to see Ed play drums more as well.
Apart from that, though, maybe on some of the more "stripped down" arrangements of some songs he could go guitarless, but otherwise I like him where he is. :)

Here's what it would look like with Ed performing without a guitar....

This was from the Magic Rap in Charleston, SC... :) I personally would like to see him perform any song sans guitar and doing a lot of cool dance moves during the song... lol

Ed doesn't have to do any more stuff without his guitar than he already does, the raps and the drumming. I go to shows to see and hear Ed play guitar! The few songs he does without are fun, but I don't wish for more of them. I think the "mixing it up" is already just right.

DITTO! :D
His guitar playing is just as important as his singing. Granted, I haven't seen a full non-Steve show yet, but still... I pay to see the man play! LOL!

Taking a guitar away from Ed would probably lead to more changes to song arrangements. If Kevin played guitar that would mean no piano/keyboards. I'd rather not see them strip away additional instruments in exchange for dance moves.

I was trying to fix spelling errors and I messed up. I think Ed looks lost without his guitar and I saw that in 2003 at this benfit that I was at.

I LOVE to watch Jim on stage. He actually gives off this radiant smile and sexy moves. I think I even got a wink one time. He makes it fun to watch him.
On the Ed note, I think him without his guitar is like chocolate cake without frosting. It's still really good, you'd love to eat it, and look at it, and taste it, but....there's no freakin' frosting. Mmmhhh Ed....and cake....*homer simpson drool*

Allow me to offer my services as an interpreter, as smart-ass is my native language...:p
tvfan, what Cynful is doing is gently teasing you because you sounded so aggressive when asking about why that other post was edited. Bazinga.:D And what I am doing now is gently teasing your literal interpretation of Cynful's post. Double Bazinga.

Ha! I agree. Comparing Ed to chocolate cake might be the best analogy ever.

Hmmm...interesting. Perhaps it was just my monitor and printer where tvfan421 occurred. Your user name tvfan421 caught my eye back when the "sock puppet" reference was made. I didn't understand the "sock puppet" reference, but that didn't matter since it was your user name that reminded me of an old inside joke from a favorite movie. If it weren't for the word "fan" in your user name, I would've thought you were aware of the inside joke, but decided it was just a coincidence.
When your user name changed to tvfan721, which was shortly after you seemed upset about people allegedly "flaming" you, and mentioned reporting the post to administration and calling tech people, I decided it truly was a coincidence because your user name is now too far removed from the original joke.
I may have made a lightly teasing reference (perhaps more of a wink and nod) in my previous mention of your user name change, but I assure you I'm not teasing you now, and I don't believe I'm being a smart-ass, I just noticed the change and wondered why.
Did anyone else experience this weird anomaly on their monitors?
