Is it safe to say, that after the AIGT tour is finished, the band will make the followup to Snacktime? Or was it a one time thing? With Steve out of the band, they would be able to do that Disney show now that they were going to do last time.

I hope it was a one time thing.
The songwriting on Snacktime was great, but I would really just prefer another BNL album that isn't about drawing and vegetables and shit.
Leave the HUNDREDS OF KIDS' ALBUMS to They Might Be Giants.

I love Snacktime- I spent 6 years working in a developmental preschool and it was so awesome to have that vs. Raffi and Baby Beluga and stuff- but I think it may have been a one-off? Their kids are getting older now...Let's see, they have done a kid's cd, a holiday cd, what could be next? A Broadway-musical type thing- a la Billy Joel or Elton John-? ("Boys don't do ballet")....The notion of a musical can cause the chunks to rise in some people's throats, I know- but somehow I think the boys could do it...but what would the theme/story be? Maybe, "Hello City?"- that is a bit of a story song to get the concept rolling, or of course, an obvious choice would be "Million Dollars, " you know, sponsored by Kraft Foods. They could also do a seriously awesome country album-but I am sure that Wal-Mart might try to ban sales of them there "Semiclad Women"...A Rock Opera- "Gordon" vs "Tommy"... I would love any or all of these- with their diversity, the sky is the limit.:)

Oh yeah, you're probably referring to "Ninjas."

Oh, and I know that "awesome country album" may be considered by many to be an oxymoron...but I love their country flava'd songs... and if they did an entire album, they could call it "Ladies Antebellum" hahahaha. ...Yes, I am a total dork.:o

That's more about "near-shits" :D

Sharts...
I have no basis for this whatsoever, but I just have a sense that Ed's going to want to do some more writing. A couple years removed from the drama, a great year on the road, and another cruise, and my feeling is they're going to come out of all that with some new songs.

I would LOVE a country/bluegrass-ish album. Ed's voice has the perfect timbre for that, I think.

I love me some bluegrass, but if they go country, ehhhh no thanks for me!

Snacktime and Barenaked for the Holidays were made out of a contractual obligation with Warner Brothers to make a kids' album and a holiday album. I wouldn't hold my breath that they'll make a second of either any time soon.

Ignorance is bliss, really. "Contractual obligation" sounds like something they'd hate doing, and they sound like they are having a blast on both albums. I'm still choosing to pretend that they came up with ideas themselves. Let me live in my bubble... :o

A follow-up to Snacktime? Pfff, please...
Snacktime was an awesome album. Great for all children, great writing, humorous wit. Everything. BUT for them to release another children's album would just be silly, especially since the last one was only two releases ago..
We didn't see a follow-up to Barenaked For The Holidays, did we now?

I think he's referring to the bonus track, which was an end result of 7, 8, 9.

Why not a b-sides and rarities album!? Fer christ sakes! ;)

I get the impression that a B-Sides album would be quite tough now seeing a lot of the material includes Steve's lead vocals. I think they would shy away from releasing something like that for a few years yet as it may confuse the 'casual fan' to release an album full of Steve songs after he has left!

It's best to just wait until Steve rejoins the band. He's going to rejoin at some point, probably sooner than later.

Can't see it myself, but each to their own! :)

I really hope so.
Not that I mind getting 2 albums this year of what is essentially BNL songs.
Speakin of that, when the hell is Steve's album coming out? On one hand I want to hear it, but on the other, I kind of hope it doesn't come out anytime in the next couple weeks because I probably wouldn't listen to it.
Listening to anything but the new Devo is not even possible for me at this point.
Last I heard, September/October for Steve's album - and a single any day/week now! :)

Very true. But us non-casual fans can dream right? :)

I've never heard this claim. Do you have a source on this? Both albums were released on Desperation Records, after the band left Warner. I can't see any reason it would be a contractual obligation to them. Steve has been on record saying he didn't want to do them, but the other guys did. That implies it was a choice, not an obligation.
Also, re: B-side album, Warner (which they are no longer on) owns the rights to those b-side recordings, so unless the band re-records them they can't put them out. The only reason the Box Set was potentially releasable was because Rhino (the box set label) is part of Warner (who owns all those rarities).

Remember, even after their recording contract was up and they formed Desperation, they were still being distributed through Warner/Reprise. I don't remember exactly where, but I remember hearing/reading somewhere prior to the release of Snacktime that a kids' record and a holiday record were part of their contract for distribution.
I'll see if I can find an article or something, but for some reason I'm associating this information with S&D, so it's possible I heard the information from someone, either from a fellow cruiser, or possibly during one of the "Meet the Managers" sessions.
Either that or it was all in a really boring but oddly specific dream I had.
