Am I the only one that feels they have killed "Every Subway Car"? First, this single version that is so cheaply put together. Second, singing it as a duet live! If they were singing it with Erin McCarley herself, I guess it would be okay, but having Serena Ryder sing it is awful. She is a decent singer, but SUCKS singing this song! I'm not trying to be judgemental or anything, but I'm expressing myself. Hopefully someone agree with me. It was such an awesome, rocking song but now..ugh....

I have alot of respect for you for having the guts to say that. I agree completely. They really blew it. Summertime should have been the single, it's a great song. What on earth were they thinking by not releasing that.

I wouldn't say they've "killed" it, per se, but I do agree that releasing it as a single AS A DUET was a bad idea. The album version as a single would have been terrific.

I don't know why they released it as a duet either, but I wouldn't go so far as saying they killed it. If you don't like the single version, just listen to the album one.

Agreed. I would have loved to see Summertime or Four Seconds.

I, too, was pushing through for Summertime. And I think I posted somewhere else that, while I thoroughly enjoyed Serena Ryder, I didn't think her voice was suited for Subway Car. I'll take the album version, thank you.

I agree Summertime should have been the next single. That song makes me want to turn the volume up and roll the windows down.

I agree. I love Every Subway Car, but since they released it as a duet, I definitely like Summertime more.

Ok, I have been reading the threads about "Every Subway Car," and have finally broken down and listened to the duet (which says something, I think, that I kind of had to "make" myself listen to a BNL song)- I don't think it is killed, or even maimed- it is more like it is having a bad hair day or a need-to-wear-its-fat-jeans kind of day. :p It is uncomfortable, but not the end of the world...I don't really care for her voice-(but I am a speech therapist and she sounds like she has vocal nodules to me)- I saw Ingrid Michaelson do the song with them live- I really like her voice, but didn't care for the song as a duet. I guess the lyrical content could lend itself to a duet, but the "story" to me seems more about an unbalanced infatuation kind of thing where the one person is so enthralled that they have to express their love for this other person to the whole world.- Not necessarily unrequited, but more on one side than the other...when it comes down to it, I want my Ladies without any other ladies... I also agree "Summertime" would sound great on the radio right about now.:)

so I had to see what was up.Found a version of this song on Utube with the Fabulous Serena Ryder and the ladies doing every subway car.Listening to it as I type.Nothing wrong with the song, not a BNL fan apart form the odd radio hit.Not the worst song Ive ever heard just nothing that touches me.Though from the vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5fm7RTV5s4 you can see Serena working hard to inject a bit of exitement into the show lol.

Wow, again, you can see the Fabulous Serena Ryder striving to inject some life into the band.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgXqUWdd-Oc
Starting to like the song, though the guys should take note on how to throw the energy around on stage.

What do you mean? Are you implying the band lacks energy on stage? I can't tell if your joking or being serious.

Hopefully better than Serena. She sounds like a dying horse.

I was having a problem understanding your point because, to me, in the clip you posted, Serena seems to be following Ed's lead and appears no more energetic than anyone else on stage.

Sorry no i was referring to the childish dying horse insult not your comment.
Bearing in mind my only experience with the BNL are the links i refered to, I was simply pointing out esp in the second link how Serena seems to be working hard to jazz things up.
First with a guitar swing thing with one member that died quickly, then a passed up attempt for some interaction with the second guitarist and then some overhead clapping with the fans.
I will admit to trolling a tiny bit but I did not expect the insult.
maybe someone can post some BNL videos for me to speed up my BNL eduacation.
cheers

I wouldn't exactly call my comment childish, it's just how I feel and it's my opinion. Also, I only think she sounds like said dying horse while attempting to sing Every Subway Car. On her own music, she is pretty good.

I don't understand your point at all. I think there is equal energy from Serena and BNL. Ed also encourages the overhead clapping from the crowd, and he seems to be rockin' out with Serena quite a lot throughout the song.

OK, I need to take a deep breath here before I respond! I was at this show (you can actually see me in the video!) and the guys were FULL of life! You first should know that it was about 100 degrees out that night and very very very humid! The guys put on an AMAZING show considering! Second, I think there was plenty of energy during this song. Ed and Serena were playing off each other the whole song! He started the marching thing (Serena does this during some of the songs in her set) and really got into interacting with her and with us! I just don't understand how you could think they did not have life and energy during this song!

Well, it's about time somebody infused some energy into a BNL show.

maybe i was wrong.I am starting to really like Subway car, cool song
here is a short interview with Serena Ryder, she talks about the BNL tour, what sounds like a massively fun and energetic time

You know, I actually don't like Every Subway car as much as the others in their new album, in fact I have no idea why it became so popular anyway.
But yes, I kind of agree, they should've instead made a disco/heav metal duet with Ben Gibbard version of the song, that would be cool.

This song was never meant to be a duet. I love the song. It's in my top favs of the new record.

Is anyone concerned that the video still has not been released? I'm wondering if something happened during production.
