I have some info on the new album. It will mose likely be released in March (possibly March 16th) and the title of the album is "All In Good Time". Here is the source of this information: http://www.vaildaily.com/article/20091211/AE/912119983/1078&ParentProfile=1062

Confirmed tracks to be on the album:
All In Good Time
Another Heartbreak
Four Seconds
Graffiti Love
How Long
Summertime
You Run Away

Now if only they'd realize the pure genius behind it and make "Four Seconds" the first single.

Alas, however, it is not to be.

Just out of interest, how do we know those songs have made the cut for the album?

I like the idea of 4 Seconds being a single, too - very catchy, and different.

Any word on what the first official single is?
I really don't listen to radio all that much any more - far too much junk - but a new BNL single might just get me back to listening again ;)

I am guessing that Summertime may be the first single, but I would prefer 4 Seconds as well to be first instead. I don't know which titles made it but if memory serves me right... there are 18 songs total, 14 tracks on the album and four that did not make it but will probably show up someplace, somewhere in the future! :)

I hope so! I love that song from what I have heard on Youtube. I think it would make a good single.

They seem to have played "You Run Away" pretty regularly live recently, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was the single either. I guess we will have to wait and see! :)

Is "All In Good Time" a song? Or is it just the title of the album? Just curious.

Also - I've heard them play "On the Lookout" twice now and love it. Hope that one makes it.

As for the first single... "Four Seconds" would be great (love that song!), but I think "Summertime" would be timely, considering it'll probably drop towards the end of winter.

First of all, I love "Four Seconds" to bits. Absolutely my favorite of the songs I've heard so far.

However, from a radio airplay stand, "Summertime" (which is pretty damn kick ass on it's own) is a lot more suited towards actually getting airplay, based on the formats (AAA & 80/90/00 soft rock) where BNL is most likely to be considered for play. So from that perspective, I think it makes a good first single choice. :)

It's a song too. :) A Kev one, if I remember correctly.

I don't believe that's a confirmed list of actual songs on the album from anything I've seen. Perhaps it's an assumption from the fact that the songs have been played live or something and mentioned (Here's a song from our new album)? I wouldn't call that a confirmation though, myself. I'd wait for an official tracklist (which shouldn't take too much longer to come out with the album 3 months away)

I think Another Heartbreak should be the first single. That song is powerful. I heard them play in Muskegon this summer and it rocked.

^Agreed. Another Heartbreak would definately be a good single. I've seen it done with guitar as the main instrument and piano, not sure which one I like better. Pretty sure it's with piano on the album though.

I hope Grafitti Love is the first single! I really love that song, and those non-bnl fans I have played it for seem to like it too!

Summertime is good, but the first single generally comes out a good chunk of time before the album, so the argument that 'summer is fast approaching because it's March' kind of falls apart.

I think most people haven't heard from BNL for a while and they're looking for a bit of a response to Steve's departure. For that reason, and the fact that it's an awesome song, Run Away has get to be the single. I can see mgmt. thinking it's a bit too mellow/slow, but it's got great build up, harmony, and it's what people are waiting for. If it's not the first single, it's likely to be the second.

I'm also fairly certain that Another Heartache won't be the first single because (1) though beautiful, it's even slower than Run Away and (2) if they release a song with Kevin on lead vocals as the first single since Steve left, it would seem to be a huge, noticeable difference to people. It's got to be Ed first. Then they can ease people into the other fantastic stuff.

Perhaps we've yet to even hear the first single! Quite possible.

The line "So bundle up and hunker down" fits with March, bc it's all about surviving through the winter to GET to Summertime! :)

I'd be more shocked if it was Another Heartbreak - even though it's probably my favorite Kevin vocal in long time.

Personally I'd prefer anything but Run Away; while I like the song I feel like it would pretty much cement the theme of every single review/article... though at least it would be a change from "wow, this album is surprisingly mature!"

I think Summertime would be a great first single. I think they need a fun, rocking song to introduce the new album and pique interest. ...plus I just love it!

A while ago, Ed mentioned, "We've been listening to possible single edits for "You Run Away", and "Graffiti Love". "

Although it's among my favorites of the new songs, I think they might be hesitant to release "Four Seconds" as a single due to the fast rhyming. People will inevitably compare it to "One Week", "Pinch Me" and "Another Postcard".

Definitely. My vote is hands-down on Run Away.

Four Seconds is awesome, don't get me wrong, but people will try to discount it as if the band were simply trying to re-do what's 'all been done'...

Kind of like the last time with a bunch of really fast rhymes.

My personal opinion on the single issue is that Summertime ought to be the first single. Having the good fortune to have heard almost all of the new songs for the first time, live, in person, at one time, earlier this year, the song that I walked out of the show humming and remembering was Summertime. To my brain (not necessarily everyone else's), that three-note guitar riff was a major hook that I easily remembered even the next day. Graffiti Love was next in line as a song I could still remember the tune of. I recognized the others the next time I heard them, sure, but I couldn't necessarily hum them the next day.

I wouldn't say any song must be the FIRST single based on the music/song itself, but I would have to say that if the first single is to come out in January or February, and the second perhaps not until April or May, and the third potentially around July, the time at which it is the most appropriate to release it is as the first single, and I think it's too good to not use as a single.

Other potential singles due to content and catchiness, in my opinion, include Graffiti Love,
How Long, Moonstone (as a later single), and Ordinary (ditto). I wouldn't be surprised to see Run Away or Four Seconds. In today's musical climate I could actually see On The Lookout as a later single.

I guess as someone who never ever listens to the radio (I pretty much just listen to Adam Carolla's podcast at this point), I don't really care. In the words of Office Space, I will celebrate the whole catalogue.

I am all about the song graffiti love. Four seconds is awesome too, but I don't think its win over the masses awesome. Its more "If you love and understand Barenaked Ladies, you will love this song" I am more for Graffiti Love as the first single. Its catchy and its a nice chunk of emotion to latch onto.:)

I'm not sure many here wouldn't just listen to the WHOLE album from start to finish upon receiving it. That said - while I love Four Seconds - I agree with the sentiment that it's likely to be the one-off of the record and have a unique sound (based on songs heard so far at least) and be another joke-like song. Thus I'd rather see something like Summertime be the first single. I think it's a very catchy song and would work well on radio.

Summertime is good, but the first single generally comes out a good chunk of time before the album, so the argument that 'summer is fast approaching because it's March' kind of falls apart.

I didn't actually say that "summer is fast approaching" (not trying to be rude, but please don't use quotes, or apostrophes in place of quotes I suppose, unless someone actually said what you're repeating) - what I did say was that the song would probably drop towards the end of winter. February, March, etc. Maybe January, but the point was since the song is about surviving the winter (and since, as many others mentioned, it's quite the catchy tune), it wouldn't make sense to release it in spring or summer.

I will say that I really hope that "You Run Away" is *not* the first single. Whether it actually is or not, everyone is going to assume that it's directed at Steve, and I'd hate for the whole album to be colored by that when we've heard plenty of awesome songs that don't sound so blatantly related to his leaving the band.

"Graffiti Love" would make for an interesting one. :p Although I suppose that's not how you should pick singles.

No matter how good the song is, do our guys have a chance of getting good airplay? Especially here in Los Angeles, it's the same 4 bands on the airwaves every single day. I can't wait for the new album, and I'll do whatever I can to help get it on the radio in my area.

Great question. I would say chances are low, unless they get a freakish viral demand, like Jason Mraz did with...whatever that song's called.

Chances are pretty good here in Rochester... I actually heard their version of "Do They Know It's Christmas" on the way home from work yesterday on The Drive (100.5). :D They also play "Jane" quite often, in addition to the usual suspects ($1,000,000, Pinch Me, One Week, Old Apartment), and when they play Brian Wilson, it's usually the Rock Spectacle version. *thumbs up*

Contrary to my behavior around previous albums...cough-iTunes BLAM download-cough...where I tried to listen to as much as I could before an album was released, I have not heard a single note of any of the new songs. I am looking forward to this new album as much as any other but I think I am enjoying the anticipation. I did a similar thing when it came to TV spoilers. I used to search for them so I would have an idea of what was going to happen but I stopped that a few years ago. I am enjoying my shows more now.

I watched a few YouTube videos at first, from shows, but then stopped. I don't really know any of the new songs, either (I do recall a small snippet of Summertime, from one single video view, so that tells you it's catchy as hell). I've got yer back! ;)

I emailed them once (non-holiday time) and asked why they don't play other songs that were released after the ones we always hear and they said that those are the songs the listeners want, the older classics. I say when the new album comes out we start emailing requests like crazy and see if they get more new stuff on the air! :D

The other problem with radio stations is that they're not programmed locally. You can call all you want and the DJ can say "I'll try to get that on for you" all he wants, but he has nothing at all to do with what songs are getting played: the station in your town that's playing Taylor Swift right now is also being heard in 27 other cities at the same time- they just cut in local weather, traffic, and ads.

Our radio stations in Rochester absolutely are programmed locally, thankfully. Particularly WBER, but they only play older, BNL deep cuts (Shoe Box and Straw Hat most often)... very rarely any new stuff.

Oooh now you dredged up a memory!

I remember listening on the radio to BNL playing the KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas about that time and hearing all these cretins who were waiting for Korn in the background hurling insults at the boys. Bad time in an otherwise good year.
