Great news! We are getting the Ships & Dip family back together for another rockin' party full of unpredictable fun on the high seas!

Ships and Dip 4 will set sail February 6-11, 2011 on the Norwegian Dawn with hosts Barenaked Ladies, special guests Guster & many others to be announced soon, for five days of non-stop music, friends and ultimate mayhem. We'll be cruising from Miami, FL to Costa Maya and Belize City, so make sure you save the date and get ready for the cruise of a lifetime. Just got my Sixthman e-mail six minutes ago (ha!). Super stoked!!!

And, while choosing what to wear today, I picked my S&D V shirt, thinking that if I wore it we'd get some word today. I am just freakin' psychic!!!! :D

It wouldn't surprise me if the writer of the email was unaware of the naming policy, and was told to send out a save the date for the fourth BNL cruise and simply assumed the title, with a future official title being VII. Of course, it wouldn't surprise me if they did something silly and actually meant it to be 4 either...

^ That thought crossed my mind, too. Especially since it's not even a Roman numeral 4. But as others have mentioned, that "4" has been on the drum kit for a while now, so that makes a lot of sense, too.

Ah, poo. I won't be going, I'm afraid - but I'm extremely excited for the whole bunch of friends who are making the trip again!

I simply won't be able to afford it, now that the UK shows have been announced. I thought I might have *just* been able to save enough for the cruise - but then this week's UK tour was announced and that is going to be very expensive as I am going to multiple shows. So, you can't win 'em all! If it's a choice between the 2, then I would rather not miss them on home soil.

So this is the "accountants" take on the numbering...

V was, lets face it, not the best of the three cruises. Weather was pretty crappy, we spent the second stop in Key West, and we've all had plenty of discussions about the band's visible tension. So...

... let's back up the truck a little and do it all over again by doing "4."

"4" is the number of people in the band now.
"4" is the ACTUAL number of the cruise that we're on now.
"4" is on the Tyler's kick drum.
"4" seconds is the "4"th song on the new CD "AIGT" whose acronym has "4" letters.
"4" is the number of strings on Jim's violin bass
"4/4" is the time signature of most of BNL's songs
And last but not least, this cruise is a great event "4" the BNL fans.

So, logically since we've reset the counting on even numbers, the next cruise will be "6", unless there is a reconciliation and Steve rejoins the band, then it will be "VII".

I'll have Price Waterhouse audit these numbers and get back to you with an audited set of financials shortly.

I would also add that it's funny to me that the same writers who said last year "this is the band's 5th annual cruise" will now refer to this as the band's FOURTH cruise- except this time, they will inadvertently be correct!
