3 themes developing from the shows so far:
1. Steven is missed (shocker)
2. The band is still "surprisingly" good.
3. Sigh...lots of empty seats.

I was there. Sorry...no set list.
Where was everybody? So many empty seats. A little sad to see that. BNL is great with or without Steve.
The show was much more low key that what I'm used to seeing from the boys. This was seriously the first BNL show I've been to where the crowd wasn't up on their feet.
What a treat to have Kev and Jim up front more often.
They all did wonderful performing the "Steve" songs. I do wish they had performed some more songs off their latest album.
Can't wait to see them again...maybe on the cruise?!?!

I wonder if the weak ticket sales are just a Canadian thing.
The only show I'm going to is the Toledo, OH show, but the sales seem way stronger than any of the Canadian dates so far: the highest price level ($57) is totally sold out and all that's left in the lower prices are back rows in the corner sections.

We Canadians are a fickle bunch. I bet that even LOverboy would have trouble selling tickets these days, even to Canucks who are invariably working for the weekend.
The half-full venues is a little worrying. :(

I think the empty seats may be attributed to lack of promotion. I believe I only ever heard 1annoucement on the radio regarding the BNL show.
I think the prices were way to high if they hoped to snag casual fans. I'll go to shows for about $40 if i'm not a huge fan, but $65-75 is a bit steep. I'm sure that probably why the poor sales. :(
I guess i better write a review before i forget everything. The guys were in top form. My sister and i both commented that their harmonies seem better than ever. Also in all the songs that Steve used to sing, i honestly would forget at times becuase Ed was doing SUCH an amazing job! Million $ has sure come a long way since the first performance at Universal. Kevin's parts are great! lol Adlibs were fun as usual, though a slight *ahem* disturbance at the beginning had me a little rattled for the first half of the show. I'm sure whoever was there heard the swearing of the people behind me.....but ANYWAY.... I tried to enjoy it the best i could after that little interuption.
I was also disappointed at the seated crowd. I know the band has even said they appreciate when everyone is up and dancing.....
A few highlights, Jim was in a very winky mood! He winked at me about 3 times, and i noticed him wink at a bunch of other people! LOL
I brought a sign that said Eraser, hoping theyd play it again like in Calgary. There were also 2 kids that had a sign that said Barenaked Ladies Rock On! (or was it You Rock). Anyhow, the band noticed so in the talking part of Million Dollars Ed got us both to hold up our sign and he criqued them. He said the kids sign was basically saying how awesome the band was. Mine on the other hand, WANTED SOMETHING. "The songs you are playing aren't good enough for me!" Ed said something like that. lol He sorta joking apologized and said i'm still his favouite, after those 2 kids!! It was great fun and they did a small part of Eraser! Whoever those 2 kids are, YOU GUYS ROCK!!!! :D
Me and a friend threw some undies for Pinch me. *sigh...i can't wait for the day when more than one person does this, like in the old vids of the band...* Ed said "the tags still on. These were not thrown up in the heat of rock and roll passion" Jim chimed in "I felt the passion" What a sweety! haha!
Oh, if anyone from the show knows who/what Ed gave the finger to near the end, i'd love to know. We couldn't hear him.
Sorry this is all over the place but my memories are a little scattered. They did an adlib about playing at petapolooza. It was about Scooper dave, the sole man who had to pick up after all 5000 dogs!
I'm going to try and figure out a rough setlist with my sister tonight and i'll post it later. I remember all the songs they played but not the exact order. I think i saw someone ask for the setlist but a security guard shook his head and somewhat gruffly refused. Now that i think of it, i should have gone up and taken a picture of Ed's taped to the stage.
Oh yea, afterwards about 5 of us waited outside by the buses. the ladies all came out and were very gracious with autographs and pics. I was somewhat star struck, but DID manage to ask Ed about the recording at least. Jim recognized me and came up to me saying "Eraser Girl!" and gave me a hug. :) Kevin seemed please when i told him how big a fan i am of his solo stuff, but alas chances are pretty much nil that they will ever come here to perform.

A few highlights, Jim was in a very winky mood! He winked at me about 3 times, and i noticed him wink at a bunch of other people! LOL
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! This reminds me of a 2006 concert when Jim walked over to "Steve's side" of the stage and winked at me. My husband jokingly started tickling me and saying, 'oooohhhh look who has Jim winking!' After a couple of more times, he said, 'never mind, you're not so hot. He just has something in his eye.'
I had forgotten about my not being so hot until your post. Thanks. Thanks a LOT! :p
Great review. Loved your interaction with the band and nice to know we can still wait for them at the buses afterward. About how long were you waiting?
About 15 mintues for Ed, or maybe it was longer i was just so dazed! lol He came out alone, then left in the van. About 20 minutes later the other 3 came out.
Ok, here is a rough not very much in order setlist.
The one with the stars are ones i'm 90% sure of the order, but anyone who was there please correct me!

When i Fall (Ed and Jim solo)
Sound of Your Voice (Kev singing/on acoustic guitar, other 3 singing harmonies. Very cute!)
Summertime
Subway Car (they did a triple play off the new album and joked around about what a triple play is. i'm 90% sure on the order of these 3)
Four Seconds
Run Away
Heartbreak
On the Lookout (Jim knocked this one out of the venue!!! Wow!!)
Straw Hat
Lovers
Easy
One Week * (I'm pretty sure this is the order of these last 5)

it was a great show. I wish that there had been more people up and dancing, so I could have gotten up too... I didn't want to spoil the view for anyone, though. :-/
anyhow, here's my pics from the show, I hope you enjoy! http://www.flickr.com/photos/shaniber/sets/72157623858245818/

As usual, thanks for sharing! I love hearing about everyone's experiences. It's making me super excited for the Halifax show!
Oops i forgot to add that they did Summertime.
Ed did all the lead vocals for Straw Hat and Some Fantastic. In the middle of SF Kev came in seemingly to sing the last verse...paused for a bit and then did a bit of another song but for the life of me i can't remember what it was.
And I know from reading other people's reviews that they often will stop to sign autographs after the show. I really hope the crazy people behind me paid the 200 for meet and greet, becuase i got to see them for free!!!! Pretty good pay back i'd say. lol

Ditto. We've met the guys before, but this is a special occasion for us and we're coming from California to let them know how much we support and appreciate them and their music. Now, in light of some of these annoying reviews, I'm glad we'll have a chance to be supportive prior to the show.
PLUS, we can now feel free to curse up a storm and start a little ruckus while standing behind others! Not that we will, but it's nice to know spending the $200 gives us an excuse. :p

That's an interesting thought, though. I think the only number of people I've heard about so far was about 17. That's not bad.
For you, perhaps it's too many witnesses but, as a fox, you should be clever enough to figure out where to hide the bodies. ;)

Sun!! Thanks for posting your review! It's keeping the memories fresh in my mind.
I was seated just down the row from you. You and your friend were hilarious! I wish more people would have been up dancing around & singing.
So you met the boys after the show? Arggg...I tried to convince my husband to wait behind the auditorium but he refused. The last time I met them was 15 years ago on their Maybe You Should Drive tour. My friend and I ran into Tyler and he was kind enough to get us backstage passes so we could meet the rest of the band.
The show was fantastic, but I still feel like there was something missing without Steve. I guess it will take time to get used to their new direction and lower energy shows.
Love the pictures Sun!! You got some good ones.
I'm a crazy person who paid 200 for the meet and greet. I'd still pay it even if I knew for sure I'd catch them after the show, but I'm a crazy person. :D
Sorry i didn't mean it that way! lol These people swore and actually shoved me and my friends, without warning. Really caused a disturbance, all becuase we wanted to stand up, dance and have fun...and we all know the band LOVES and encourages the crowd to get up and dance. I'm just hoping in some way they know what spoil sports they were. I don't mean to say those of you who spent the extra money for the meet and greet were jipped. :)
I know i'm fortunate to have met the band and have the interatcion with them that i did. I honestly don't LIKE to make a spectacle of myself, but when you are one of 5 people in the whole auditorium dancing...and holding a sign its hard to blend in. Music brings out so much joy in me, i can't hold it all in and sit just humming along.....The adrenaline takes over and after all, its was a rock concert.

Hop-Along, a word of advice, when I need to convince my husband to wait behind an auditorium, I give him a come-hither glance, a sexy pout, and a booty shake with a shimmy for good measure. And I never - I mean NEVER - tell him I want to go there to meet other men! :D;)
Sun, OMG! I am so sorry you had such a moment with such loooosers! One of the reasons I love these message boards is we get to find out who will be sitting around us - hopefully. I try and say 'hey' to the people around me because I HATE sitting at a BNL concert! I feel you, sister, I GOTS to mooove! There are plenty of concerts I attend where I remain seated, because that's the type of show it is, but BNL rocks my world and I'm not going to sit passively by while the boys give it their all to entertain the audience! It doesn't matter if you paid $30 or $3000, you're there to be a part of a wonderful performance, and now, more than ever, BNL needs to know we support them.
That's just my opinion, I could be wrong - BUT I'M NOT! Get off your asses and DANCE, bitches!

Thats so awesome! Where were you seated? I noticed 3 ladies stand number of time a few rows back and to my right. And also noticed a guy stand up during what i think was One Week, or was it Million Dollars. I think that was you looking at your pics. My sister tried to pull me back down when i stood up but i was too pumped and didn't care anymore about the people behind me. million dollars is THIER song!! I was surprised not many people stood up for that one at the very least. :(
cynful, that means so much for the support. For awhile i thought i was in the wrong. I felt SO aweful, you guys have no idea. A BNL concert is one of those things that mean SO much to me. I felt truly aweful for most of the show, but tried to syphon the nerves and adrenaline into positive energy for the ladies.
Hop-along, its too bad you didn't stick around after the show with us!

I know not everyone can afford to blow $200 on concert tickets (ended up being $600, in my case). I saved for a while in anticipation of there being a show in Halifax, and there being VIP tickets. I figured if there was at least a show in Halifax but no VIP tickets when time came, I could buy lots of over-priced merchandise :D
Sorry to hear you had crappy people sitting behind you :( They sounded very unworthy of VIP tickets.
To be honest i have no idea they actually had vip tickets. She just threw out the number 200 and maybe she meant their 2 tickets. well that only equals 150. Thats besides the point though! BNL are worth that, and MORE! I dont care how much it costs so it was a pretty shitty exuse.
