Hi All,

I can't locate the post of someone's review of AIGT where they mentioned that You Run Away reminds them of another song, but they wouldn't mention it as to not lead others to the same song.

My brother and I were discussing YRA, and he thought it was a cover of a different song, but he couldn't put his finger on it, and now I'm curious to hear that other song.

Anyone remember that post, or know what song he could be thinking of?

Thanks a bunch :)

Reminds me of Maybe You're Right, just not as good.

McGerkey have you had the chance to hear it live yet?

It really impressed me live more than anything. The emotions were far more palpable.

No and I don't see that happening anytime in the near future either, as they still have no shows scheduled for the general NH/MA/VT area.

I'm thinking they're going to be hitting the Northeast in August. We still have time. ;) In an interview Ty and Ed did with my local new station (which is linked in one of the threads in the top section... I forget which one), Tyler PROMISED they'd be coming to Rochester in late July into August. I'm holding him to it. LOL!

They played in Boston in like December, doing one of those acoustic shows. I was gonna go with my mother (since she's the only person I know outside of the internet who enjoys BNL), but we both weren't sure how much we'd actually want to see a Steveless BNL AND have to sit through one of those terrible American Idol dudes who was also playing.

Obviously I regret not going now, because not only do we all know that BNL as a fourpiece works out pretty great, but a goddamn acoustic show sounds like it would have been AWESOME.

Oh well. I can always get it right next time. NEXT TIME. I CAN ALWAYS GET IT RIGHT NEXT TIME (SIFdvjbkfm,v.

That was actually me. :)

I guess I'm safe to put it here:

YRA reminds me of Five For Fighting's "Superman".

That piano starts and all of a sudden I'm hearing "I can't stand to fly..." Then the whole song gradually builds up like "Superman".

I've gotten better at tuning it out since my review. And how interesting was it that BNL and Five For Fighting wound up both playing at Pet-A-Palooza yesterday.

A pretty strange cosmic coincidence if you ask me, heheh. ;)

My first impression of YRA, hearing it live a year ago was 'if they record this in a certain way, it could easily sound like Maybe You're Right 2'. But I when I heard the studio version, I didn't get that impression from it. I thought they made the song its own...

You should have come. It was awesome. :) (as long as you weren't standing and getting yelled at by obnoxious fans who were mad that you were standing AT A ROCK SHOW)

The twinkly and fragile piano at the start reminds me of the Carpenters.

I know someone already said it, but it reminds me of Snow Patrol, or maybe The Fray.

Anybody besides me notice a hint of "Fun and Games" in Golden Boy? "Wait, there's a catch..."

I've heard the Snow Patrol comparison before, and then heard a Snow Patrol song, and could see what they meant.

But please please PLEASE, not The Fray. LOL!

Oh come now. It's very easy to imagine hearing "You Run Away" as the background music in an important scene in Scrubs a la The Fray. Or - wait for it - Grey's Anatomy. :p

They'll probably play it during Katherine Heigl's "very special" farewell episode:D

In my head I actually hear Semisonic's "Closing Time" in "Another Heartbreak" during the instrumental bridge (I think that's what it'd be called)!

Thanks everyone for your help :)

We've reviewed the songs so far, but no "aha" moments yet.... I think maybe it's just the combo of all of the above :)

I think that's the best you're going to get with any BNL song. I honestly don't understand the need to find that "one" song out there that it "sounds like." They have their own sound that is influenced by everything they're exposed to... which includes lots of stuff that we're also exposed to. It's always been this way. ;)

I've harped on this one before, but listen to "Asleep" by The Smiths, and then BNL's "When You Dream"

I've always found them similar.

Does Every Subway Car remind anyone else of a certain Duran Duran song about wolves and having being hungry and shit?

I've thought that before, but I'm going out for the football team to prove that I'm a man; guess I shouldn't tell them that.

That was bad even for me...

On a slightly connected note.... Whenever I listen to Am I The Only One... I feel as though I've known it much longer than I actually have.... if that makes sense... like I've never known a time when I DIDN'T know that song. It sort of reminds me of my childhood, even though it wasn't even written then.

It's nice to hear someone else feels that way, too. I cannot get through that song without tearing up. This is why I can't listen to the album in the car. Perhaps that's why it's called Maybe You Should Drive?
