1. The Wire
2. The Shield
3. Arrested Development
4. The Office UK
5. 30 Rock
6. Mad Men
7. The Simpsons
8. Friday Night Lights
9. Dexter
10. Survivor

Sorry, Sopranos: the last couple seasons were just so so. And Lost has been awesome, but never as good as the first season. Big Love, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Six Feet Under also get some love from me.

Six Feet Under was #1 for me.

Although the series straddled two decades, the best single hour of television for me was the episode 'The Body' of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Other favorite shows for me that haven't been already mentioned: Battlestar Galactica, Life on Mars (UK version) and Family Guy.

For me, it's been... (sing that if you like ;) )

- House
- Battlestar Galactica
- Arrested Development
- LOST

That's all that immediately comes to mind for me.

Some that haven't been mentioned:

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
How I Met Your Mother
Grey's Anatomy

You may not agree, but it's my opinion :P

7. The Simpsons

I'd argue that the Simpsons seminal decade was the 90's. I really haven't felt compelled to watch it in years, though it still occasionally makes me laugh.

Other than that, I'd agree with pretty much all the entries from everyone (even when I don't personally like the shows), but I'd add in "Mythbusters". I think that show was a ground breaker, and not just bc of all the explosives that they set off. :p

Are we including Canadian TV in this too? Cause then I'd also like to add:

Corner Gas
Slings and Arrows

I do agree with you on the Simpsons: more 90's than '00's...but I give it props for remaining fresh and relevant after over 20 freaking years!

Oooohhh... I hadn't even thought about the Discovery stuff.

In that case, I'll match your Mythbusters, and raise you a Deadliest Catch and a Dirty Jobs. :D

Definitely LOST, for me. We actually had a discussion group about it at work. Can't WAIT for the final season!

In no particular order and probably forgetting a bunch of shows I've loved...

Lost
Firefly
Reaper
How I Met Your Mother
Six Feet Under
Mad Men
Gilmore Girls (except for season 7)
Veronica Mars (season 1 only)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Dexter
Supernatural (best guilty pleasure ever)

That's 11 isn't it. Shoot. Plus Community and Glee, which might become favorites but are too new to be sure.

Life On Mars - the British version, not the watered down American one.

Laurel, if you were a guy I'd proclaim my love for you!

I do love you, just not that way ;)

I'll put the only show I ever watch, and that's 'cause it's playing on at least ONE channel in my cable lineup:

Law & Order (any iteration, but I prefer Criminal Intent).

:)

Oh, and The Amazing Race - easily the BEST reality show on TV.

well I don't watch a lot of tv, but here's what I like from this decade

Pushing Daisies
Doctor Who (I realize that this has been around since the 60's but the new series that started in 2005 is great!)
Eureka
Mythbusters
the first season of Heroes (everything else was awful)

Since no one's mentioned it (and since tv here in India seems to be a season or so behind and it's on all the time): Boston Legal.

I was a huge fan of "The Practice" but I have to say BL was awesome and outdid its predecessor.
