I know it's a little early just now, but there's not even a thread for the show... so is anyone from this board at the show? Any news to report - stage set-up, setlist, how much fun was it? etc... Thanks in advance! :)

Sorry for the typing error in the title of this thread by the way, before anyone pulls me up on it. It's late, I'm tired and I can't edit it now apparently. SOZ!

The show tonight was great! Really enjoyed it and I like the new vibe.

I spoke to God and he told me that the downloadable concerts will be back very soon:)

Ah I wish that were true for this show. Unless I missed it - and I looked - I don't think it was offered in Victoria.

Details!

Back at the hotel from the show! Terrific time, we had the meet and greet package. We were supposed to meet by 6:30 to get the tickets and passes for the meet and greet, but they werent ready yet, so we didnt get them until about 6:45. We then had to wait for the doors to open at 7, but were late and we didnt get out of the FREEZING cold until about 7:15. We raced in and bought shirts and I got a sweatshirt. Black shirt with the black and white pic from the album cover, with orange Barenaked Ladies lettering. Tour dates on the back.

We were then taken backstage and wating just about 5 minutes for the band, there were 17 of us, if I counted correctly. The guys walked in and walked around and met with everyone for a few minutes and took pics and signed out VIP badges. Very cool, got a better pic of me wiht Ed than I have been able to get on any of the 3 cruises yet!

We were in Row 1, seats 15 and 16.

Testing 1 2 3
Old APartment
Falling for the 1st Time
Adlib - Another one Bites the Dust
Sound of your Voice (Kevin singing, I think this is weak for him)
Subway Car
Thanks That was Fun (Acostical Ed and Kev - AWESOME)
Spider in My Room (Jim and Ty Acoustical)
Wind It Up (Bluegrass Version all in center)
*Mole' Adlib somewhere in this area of set
Lovers in a Dangerous Time (Ed did GREAT with this!)
Four Second (AWESOME Live!)
Another Heartbreak
Easy
You Run way (this made me very sad, Ed seemed somber during this imo)
Adlib - Orca whale
Big Bang Theory Theme (Yaaaaay! Reminded me of the ALumni Show)
On The Lookout
One Week
Its All Been Done
Second Best (Ironical title for Kevin to sing - weak imo)
Pinch Me
Adlib - Salty Balls
$1,000,000
"Magic" cover with Ed Beatboxing (and with dance routine wiht Ed, Jim, Tyler)

Thoughts...
I think I may have missed a song near the "Salty balls" Adlib, cause I was laughing so hard

We stood the whole time, the entire front row seemed too. Barely anyone else did in the arena

This is the first time in a while that I have felt like it was alot of people who just came for their first time because they liked a song on the radio from the Top 20. People didnt seem to be super into it, but I also have the cruise shows as a frame of reference.

Not alot of other cruisers, it seemed. We told each of the guys at the meet and greet that we were triple dippers, and all 4 were very excited to talk about it, tell us it was in the works, and ask who we wanted to see on the cruise. I got very positive vibes from them about the cruise.

The concert ended on a slow song, it seemed like a weird end to me. They started a random song in the background (on the overhead) but at first I thought it was TITNIFAATW. But then they just waved and boom, it was over. Kind of an odd end.

We had a GREAT time, cant wait for our next concerts (Portland and Spokane).

Casey

Here's a couple of 'professional' reviews of last night's show, including one by the Globe and Mail, who always seem to write pretty well:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/arts/barenaked-ladies-concert-a-page-turner/article1525800/

http://www.timescolonist.com/entertainment/Ladies+post+Page+manage+stay+decent/2772493/story.html

Both reports mention that only 2200 tickets were sold out of a possible 3100... :(

Only five songs from the new album?!?! I was hoping to get to hear these live!!! But still that's a great setlist! And I am madly jealous of BBT. Hope it sticks around in thr setlist for a while :)

I must say I am highly disappointed with this set list. They are on a tour for AIGT, but only play 5 songs from it?? Before, when they made a new record, they would heavily play music from it at the concerts. I hope this picks up.

Thank you for sharing, everyone! I am also a little disappointed that they didn't/won't be playing more songs from the new album. Excited to see they did Four Seconds, though. I LOVE that song.

I'm getting all excited now! Less than three weeks until the Halifax show! :D

Both articles seem to pine for "vintage chestnuts" Yoko and Enid, which were not played. I find that very suspect that two independant reviews by independant authors would both notice the absense of those two songs (neither mentioned Brian Wilson, Good Boy, Call and Answer, Too Little Too Late, etc., none of which were played, according to the only currently available setlist on .net (that admittedly seems to be missing a song or two). Why those two relatively obscure singles were mentinoed, I'm not sure.

Liam

I'm sure they will play more songs from AIGT as the tour goes on. Strikes me as odd that they didn't play at least half the album last night - oh well, I'm confident they have good things up their sleeves. :)

Hi guys - I post on both this b0oard and the .net board, so if you read both, sorry about the dupe comments.

Regarding the lack of ticket sales, I was REALLY disappointed in the face that the arena did NOT have any picture of BNL outside on the large video screen. If you were driving by, you would wonder what was going on. For that matter, when i had gone to the website to see if it talked about cameras (our meet and greet email talked about checking directly with the venue about cameras) the most newest event was Stars on Ice MAY 11! Gee Save-On foods Arena, maybe you could have unloaded some of those extra tickets if you had, oh, I dont know advertised or something! There is something to be said for impulse purchasing, and if the sign had gotten 8 hours all day of "Barenaked Ladies - tickets still available!" they would have sold some.

Maia - I am soooo mad I didnt get a video of the intro into BBT, but before they started it, Ed was totally talking about random crap and the other guys were kind of looking at him like "Dude?" And then he said something like, OK, I am totally stalling becasue I the great fear I have at singing this next song and finally launched into BBT (which I LOVE the show!) so I was so excited to hear it again! On a funny OT note, my sis and I went to the filming of BBT and they played the "long" version of the song, and I think everyone was looking at us crazy when we were all excited to hear it!

Liam - not sure what his comments were, but they did have a cool brightly colored backlight thing with a white curtain still up, where they started out with one of them and then added some others. Qute frankly I was actually a little distracted then by the lack of people jumping up and cheering and was turning to my friend saying "no one is cheering or standing", but I managed to get a couple pics!

DesignerFox - LOVED 4 seconds - it is by far my most fav song from the new album now, as my listenings are shaking themselves out.

I too wish they had played more new stuff, but I really enjoyed the opportunity to hear the new 4 piece take some of the older stuff out for a spin. Ed did particualrily well on Old Apartment and Lovers in a Dangerous Tim, imho.

I for one am not surprised that the concert was more All In Good Time heavy. If they don't give the occasion fan what they know and love, they won't be there to hear the new stuff and fall in love with it.

Hypo - during the first maybe 2 songs there were about 5 people with cameras flitting about in the area between us and the stage (maybe 4 feet of space). They were kind of bumping into each other and chatting a bit, so maybe they knew each other or one of them got it into the others head - if they were the people actually writing those articles). It was actually very distracting and annoying, so I was glad when they were gone after not too long.

True, but at the same time (and Allan was speaking to me about this earlier), I'm surprised that they didn't play more of the new material, to play to their strengths (i.e.: playing material designed to be performed as a 4 piece, rather than finding work-arounds for songs designed for a 5-piece band). Don't get me wrong, they will - and do need to - continue to perform the 'hits', and the songs that people are familiar with, but adding a couple more AIGT tunes in there surely wouldn't have hurt.

Casey

THANKS, Casey!

You just made my day and I'm getting more excited! Which reminds me, I need to call Artists Arena and find out what's going on with our MTL tix and CDs. They sent us 3 AIGT CDs with a note saying we were to bring them to our Meet n Greet to get signed. When we called and asked which CDs they were for, we were told for the BNVIP package we purchased for Santa Rosa - yes, we're not "receiving signed copies of the CD" we're sent CDs that we are suppose to bring to get signed. Odd that. When we asked, 'what about the other VIP packages we bought PRIOR to the show in Santa Rosa, CA?' we got an 'I don't know' a 'that person won't be here to answer your question until next week' and a 'I'll have to look into it and get back to you'. Oh dear, I'm getting nervous again. I must go back to my happy place - barenaked with a bunch of strangers posing for a picture on the deck of a cruise ship. Ahhh, yes, that's better.

Not a direct connection like Harland, I just think you can sometimes tell which of the guys is more friendly with other artists - eg: Jason Plumb is an Ed friend. Mike Evin is a Jim (/Andy) friend, The Mountain Goats are a Steve friend... From what I've observed, I think Boothby is more of a Kevin friend than anyone else's. I think Kevin joined him on stage (playing keyboards) during some of boothby's opening act gigs for BNL in the UK. That is not to say the other guys don't like him or anything, it's just wondering "In whose head would Boothby have popped up as a suggestion?"

Boothby is Kev's friend and certainly his suggestion, yes - but I believe that the whole band are friends with him (via Kev).

On the last 2 UK tours, Ed, Jim and Kevin have all joined Boothby on stage for the support slot. Kev would come out first, then Jim, then Ed. They made a half-decent band. ;)

I seem to remember either Kev or Boothby saying they first met while both appearing at the Edinburgh Festival, which may mean Kevin was there with Corky and The Juice Pigs, and so their friendship predates Kev's involvement with BNL.

ETA: And, of course, Sean Cullen was in Corky and The Juice Pigs.
