I just bought a copy of Snack Time for my kids. I absolutely loooove the album! I just poked around the BNL official website to try to find contact info so that I could send a message to the Ladies about how in love I am with the CD. Couldn't find any contact info (is it just me?) so I'm writing my little "love letter" here, in the hopes that they might see it. ;)

I can't say enough great things about Snack Time! It is such a super album for kids because it's "real" music but written about silly, whimsical kid stuff. I mean, who writes an entire song about erasers?! :D Hilarious!!

One of my fave songs on the album is "Drawing"... something about Steven's quivery, bad-80's-Techopop vocals on that track that never fails to give me a smile. "Bad Day" and "Things" are lovely, touching little songs.

What really makes this album sooo loveable is the lyrics. Each time I listen to the album, I discover something new. I've listened to it several times over already and I just can't get enough of it! I crack up every time I hear the MANY lyrical gems like "I can parle francais / I parled a bit today"; "9 was minding his business / Talking to 10 / about Gordie Howe's clothes" (What the??) :D; "But you and I both know it's a girl's coat"; and the last little tidbit at the end of "Crazy ABCs" spelling "box" as "balks".

Ladies, Snack Time is a superb example of what kids' music can and should be - great-sounding music, fun, kid-relevant, sweet and innocent yet with some naughty tongue in cheek humour thrown in, PLEASE tell me you'll be writing another kids album!!

Great first post! I'm totally with you on Snacktime. I'm 21, so I'm neither a kid or a parent (i.e. the intended audience) - but I still enjoy it a lot. :D

Thanks Liam! As a more experienced BNL forum member... do you know if the band ever pops in here to read messages or even  reply to messages?

So far, on this forum, no band member has posted anything (at least, not under a username that people would be able to identify the user as one of BNL). However, I've read on numerous occasions now that the band DO read their message boards, and probably management too, so I wouldn't be surprised if one day they do stumble across your message. :)

If you're on Twitter, you can always send an @ message to @barenakedladies :D

I adore Snacktime, too... like Liam, I am neither a kid nor a parent, but when I do have kids, they're going to get to listen to it a lot...

Funny side story - a very good friend of mine had to stop playing 789 for her now 2.5-year-old, because it was screwing up her attempts to learn to count. She kept skipping nine!

If any of them would post, it'd be Tyler.

Our almost-5-year-old son loves Snacktime, too! :)

"Drawing" is my fave song on the album, too. Something very DEVO-esque about it, it always makes me turn it up :)

I'm sure my newborn will love it too! It's oft-listened to in the car.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! As a newbie on this forum, you've shared some interesting tidbits. I really do hope the band does "stumble" on my message... that would be so great because I REALLLY want a Snack Time 2! :o

KDCMH: Any particular reason why Tyler would be the one to post?? ;)

katezilla: Ahh... thanks!! I was not quite of music-listening age yet when Devo was popular so i couldn't quite pinpoint which band I was feelin' as I listened to "Drawing"! Now I won't be able to get that weird Devo Lego-like helmet out of my head "Well there's a red Devo helmet on my head / I just know it, I just know it"

Ty's just the most active online. Kevin and Jim rarely if ever get on, and Ed does rarely and reluctantly (as far as I can tell).

He had his own thread going on at .net about a year ago. He was pretty active for a couple of weeks, till I guess they started recording the new album.

I know what you mean about "Snacktime". I'm not the target audience either, but so many songs are so well crafted and funny they're just wonderful to sing. I find myself singing "Raisins" or "Drawing" when out walking, or bursting into a spontaneous "EEEEeeeeEEEEeee..." and my sig other will fill in the "...raser" part! :D

You know, as a parent (now of three as of Jan 13th), I can't say this is my favorite album. I do love hearing Gordon Lightfoot calling in though.

My daughter, who is turning 13 in May, loves it. She always seems to be singing something off of the album. I will have to see what my son thinks of the album once he gets a little older, but I bet he will like it too, And I must admit - it will be much better listening to Snack Time than Barney or Teletubbies. (Do they still have those? Hopefully not.)

My kids enjoyed Snacktime. Right now they are more Gaelic Storm fans. They went from singing "Popcorn" to singing "Darcy's Ass!". They are 5 and 3. maybe I need to bringthem back to Snacktime.

But Gaelic Storm is a riot............I have a vision of the 3 year old in a crowded quiet department store yelling Let's raise a glass to Darcy's ass.....DARCY's ASS! Ahhhhh such fun.

Most of the singing is in the car. But we have gotten a good look from the gas station attendent.

LOL Craig...it is quite fun to sing along with Gaelic Storm. I haven't gotten Hunter tuned in to them yet...since he is 7 I guess that I should.

Hunter (our 7-year old grandson) loves Snacktime. He listens to it to go to sleep anytime he spends the night at our house. On the last cruise I got him a Snacktime t-shirt and got all 5 guys to sign it for him. He was so excited to get that t-shirt that he has only worn it once or twice because the doesn't want to get it messed up. And I recently decided that we need to put it up and keep it safe---I'll get him a new one on the next cruise to replace it.
