Hey guys. Long time BNL fan here, and I have the CD EP "Barenaked Ladies" which is more commonly known as the "Yellow Tape" (derived from the original tape release cover being yellow). I have owned this CD since it was released here in the UK.
My problem is, I am leaving the country permanently soon and money is getting a bit critical; I am having to look at some of my collector's items and wonder what they are worth. Does anyone know what the collector's value or, for arguments sake, ebay value, is of this Barenaked Ladies Yellow Tape CD UK release 4-track version? Would be great if anyone could shed a little light here, I have never seen a copy of this sold anywhere for the last twenty years, on the high street or even the internet.
I would rather keep it, but if it's worth something then I have to consider selling it.

Hi Scottie, good to see another UK fan. I would strongly consider keeping the CD. I too have a copy of it, and I only bought it about 2 years ago. I bought it from eBay and only paid about a tenner (if that) for it, so I'd suggest that its personal value to you is more than the ££ you could get for it. If there's not currently another one listed on eBay, then you never know, you may get a little more than what I paid - but it would be a risk. It's up to you. The most I think I have ever seen one of those CDs go for is like £15 - the Yellow Tape cassette is a different story, sometimes they can pick up a few bob.

Good luck with the money saving for your move abroad. If you're interested, I run a site bnluk.net which is a place for UK fans to chat (it has a forum) - if you find the time amongst your packing, then it would be good to see another face over there. Cheers. :D

I concur with Liam; I don't think there is a major market for it, and I think the BNL market is somewhat "down" at the moment anyway with the Steve-parture and a lot of fans bailing out, and focus shifting away from the "historical" BNL to the "future of" BNL. Liam probably put a good estimate on it, and I'll say that it's been a long time since I saw ANYTHING barenaked ladies sell for more than 20 bucks on ebay, no matter what it is [note: I said sell for, not asking for]. Anything priced more than that seems to just not sell (obviously there are occasional exceptions for things like signed guitars or a one-of-a-kind item whose base value is over 20 bucks, but that's rare) - oh and concert tickets are obviously face valued at a higher price and tend to sell.

Out of curiousity, I did some research and I'm stunned to see someone rediculously asking for 50 bucks for a BOAPS songbook (somewhat rare, but still only a cover price of maybe 20) and even more rediculous, 60 bucks for a One Week single (worth 3 bucks at most). A mid-90s red and white ink concert poster for 42 (I don't think I've ever seen a bnl concert poster sell)

I can't believe they are wasting money trying to sell like that.

Hey guys. Thanks for your responses, and I think your estimates sound about right, especially given the future of BNL. It's a shame really; I'm selling alot of Iron Maiden stuff (used to be a big fan back in the eighties up to when Bruce left, but it's all samey since) alot of vinyls, some of which are going for over £30 a piece, which is great cos it's all paying for my move. But if my CD will only go for about ten or fifteen quid then really I'd rather keep hold of it, especially since I've always liked everything BNL, except for some stuff on the Stunt album, I wasn't really feeling that as much as all the others.
