View Full Version : Four bonus tracks

So if it's not a mistake, Amazon.com's MP3 download of AIGT lists Moonstone as a bonus track (well, lists Moonstone... which would be a bonus track)
http://www.amazon.com/All-Good-Time-digital-booklet/dp/B003BB4UWO/
(PS: It has samples!)
This makes it likely that Let There Be Light will be the tour bonus, and as She Turned Away and All In Good time are iTunes bonuses, that makes it pretty likely that all four will be available (lossy, but available). [Edit: This has been confirmed now - Light wil be the ticket-buyer bonus]
The question now becomes, how many people will buy on iTunes AND on Amazon... (who also have the album download free by buying tickets... and some of whom apparently get a copy of the physical disc via LR membership)? I did that on BLAM and I'm simply not going to do it this time. This is how many times I bought BLAM songs (including the All New Revue [which might have been a free bonus; I forget], and TTTH, and no offence to BNL, but it was a mistake: [add to this iTunes download... twice I think - both times it leaked early). It was stated that the year BLAM came out was their most profitable year since '98, and I think the 20 release options was one of the big reasons. I just can't spend on the same album three times this time.

LOL! That's about exactly as how many times I purchased BLAMe/BLAMen. I completely agree with what you are saying Allan.
ETA: to be fair, we have to mention that ANR (free with pre-order of BLAMe) and TTTH are live albums and total worth paying for extra.

Yeah, I give credit for that (I think I said it was probably free in the first post) and TTTH is separate, but sort of companion. I just think it's rediculous that I own eight pieces of physical media with BLAM songs on it, which includes six pieces of physical media with the BLAM studio recordings on it, which (noting the reg version of BLAM and BLAMEN) combine for four and a half (the vinyl is only BLAM) copies of the full album (less the bonus tracks which did not come on BLAM deluxe CD), plus one and a half digital itunes copies (the early BLAM leak with all four bonus tracks, and the complete 29 track deluxe album, which I think also leaked early). I'm not going to blame them for that, because I already had the bonus tracks and still bought the 2nd leak, I think knowing BLAMen or the deluxe BLAM would come out at some point - I just wanted the material ASAP. I blame someone for the rediculous double leak though. Ended up being a big cash grab, I suspect.
Physically, the vinyl I bought for collectability, because Vinyl is cool. BLAM I think I bought because you had to preorder it to get the Revue CD... The deluxe edition I bought to have a lossless physical copy of the songs, and they very lamely did not include the bonus tracks (but they did on the 5.1 edition which I bought because 5.1 audio is awesome). I then had to buy BLAMen to get a lossless physical copy of those bonus tracks. I don't remember why I bought the USB key, to be honest. Must have been for the two Revue bonus tracks they included. Probably was a bad buy on my part too.
But getting back to the point of this thread, I appreciate the band, I love the new album, but I don't expect to pay for it again at the moment. I've already paid for/been awarded/earned several copies of the free download via ticket orders, and my LR membership ought to include a copy of the physical album, apparently... They are trying to tempt with bonus tracks to get me to buy two more copies of lossy digital, but I'm not going to do it. If there's a physical lossless medium with the four bonus songs, I'll jump on it, but that's it unless 5.1 shows up (they haven't mentioned mixing 5.1, so I kind of doubt it), or something very cool shows up (like vinyl).

It's not that I'd have to buy multiple copies of the same album that gets me, it's really disappointing to me that the four bonus tracks will be lossy. I hate itunes, and I refuse to purchase digital (lossy mp3) music. They should at least offer the four bonus songs as a FLAC download for us who prefer lossless (they don't have to be on a CD, CD's are really just a storage medium, I can live with downloads of lossless). I hope a lossless alternative shows up. And about the previews, I cannot wait to hear the rest of "I Saw It".

I'm always amazed that people can hear the difference between "lossy" and "non-lossy" music. I can't tell the difference at all, other than I can fit way more "lossy" music on my ipod than "non-lossy" music.

It's quite the magical song. It rumbles on straight through and is mellow and bouncy at the same time... I loved it the first time I heard it live last year.

Hypes, my advice would be that within a few shows of the tour, they'll probably play all the stuff that doesn't make the album at least once (they did AIGT at the Cleveland radio show, and I'm assuming they're not rehearsing it for nothing). And since I'm betting they're going to start selling the live downloads again, just buy your missing tracks that way.

... You mean download the live versions? See that doesn't make sense to me, Gary. Someone who desires a lossless version of a studio track (I have my reasons, btw, other than just claiming to be able to hear the compression in lossy, which is sometimes true and sometimes not) is probably less likely to be the kind of person who would say "as long as I have a recording of the song, I'm good". I will most likely get some live tracks from the tour, if available; but that certainly is not a stand-in for the studio tracks in any way. It's a great "This will tide me over until there are studio tracks". Both are great in their own rights, but they aren't interchangable.

I see...for me, I prefer the live tracks to the point where after a few months when most of the songs have been done live, I won't even listen to the studio recordings at all anymore.

Yay! None of the shows are in my area, so people who get Let There Be Light would you be kind enough to share it??

Another I bet before the tour is through they will have been in your area.

Which begs the question, if the bonus track is only available if you download during the first week of release, how does that comment help someone hoping to get said bonus track, if they live somewhere that won't be toured until summer or fall?

Yes that's what I am thinking. Personally, I am paying for all the bonus tracks. Preordered it on iTunes for AIGT and STA, plan to but the Amazon MP3 for Moonstone, then hopefully somebody will be kind enough to provide Let There Be Light with us. I can't be paying for a ticket for a concert I can't even go to just for one song xP.

My guess is that they will offer a free download including the bonus track if downloaded within a certain time for all concerts on the tour.

If the premise is "lets get people to download the first week the album is out, because these count as sales numbers, and we want to have a high debut", I don't know if it's logical to assume that they will offer it for subsequent concert downloads (or else they wouldn't have made it a one-week-only thing in the first place).

Confirmation now from BNL (twitter, bnl site): The bonus tracks WILL be separately available, after a limited time where itunes/amazon have the "rights" to em. So if you can hold your horses for a week or two or three (I'm just guessing at the time frame), you will be able to buy all the bonus tracks (hopefully losslessly); so not to worry later-touring-ticket-buying-people.
I'm very excited about hearing the studio recordings of "Moonstone" and "Let There Be Light". After seeing/hearing them live on Youtube, I'm feeling pretty positive about the album - if they can afford to CUT these 2 songs from the album, then the quality of the album must be very high! "Let There Be Light" reminds me of early REM. And "Moonstone" is just gorgeous. Woohoo!
