i believe about 10 years ago the barenaked ladies did a car commercial with one of their songs. i believe it was for toyota or maybe chevy.
anyone remember what song that was? there was a song ONE STEP that also was maybe used in another commercial but that is not the one i mean.

That's the only one I know of. Sorry.

They did use one of their songs in a Coors commercial around the same time, but it was a cover. I think it was "Who Needs Sleep?" but I don't exactly remember because, like I said, it was a cover. It ended up being a cover because not all five guys wanted one of their songs to be used in a commercial promoting alcohol (like, I don't know, Ed maybe? ;)).

One Week was in a Mitsubishi commercial

It was also the lead in song for the movie "10 Things I Hate About You", which I completely forgot until my wife started watching the movie on cable this morning while I was gumming my cereal...

There's a scene in United States of Tara where the daughter's creepy boss/stalker is driving around listening to BNL in his car. Can't remember what song, but it wasn't a hit single-type number.

This Is Where it Ends was on Dawson's Creek, when Pacey gets arrested by his brother (I think) for underage drinking. There was another, but I can't remember which.

we always heard the commercial about 10 years ago on tv and just thought it was a catchy tune for the car commercial. than one day we heard the entire song while in the car but were not able to hear the name only that it was sung by the barenaked ladies. which at that time we din't even know who they were.
thanks for all the help and i am sure one day when we least expect it we will hear it again

Try going to music.yahoo.com and just search through their song titles- maybe something will stick out. Obviously, you don't have to look at anything that wasn't written yet.

You know... I had a thought. I know you swear it was BNL, but around the same time, They Might Be Giants' "Yeh Yeh" was in a car commercial as well... could that be it?

Just trying to help you figure this out, because as far as I know, "One Week" was the only BNL song EVER used in a car commercial.

Wasn't "When I Fall" used for one of those senior citizen "LifeAlert" commercials? Or is that just a stupid joke I just came up with?

The guitar solo from It's All Been Done could be heard in the UK tv on an ad for the Argos catalogue. At one UK show (Bristol?), Steve thanked Argos for putting his kids through college before said solo.

In the US they used "Angry People" in some cell phone commercial in 2006. I just remember them using the chorus.

I would bet my life that "Who Needs Sleep" was indeed used for a car commercial, but I can't remember for which car.

"KOHL'S" used a bit of "Shopping" for one of their adverts last year.

Now I keep thinking about places I have heard songs over the years. LOL!

The local AM radio sports guy (Bob Matthews.... he's a tool) uses the main riff from Too Little Too Late in his show.

A & E used what a GOOD BOY for first Season of INtervention.

Bob and Shari (radio) use Wind it Up Guitar Riff often in play ins and outs.
