Nobody knows. This is the first time, at least that I can remember, where they've offered this kind of package with a meet and greet.
I wouldn't expect too much more than an informal line type thing or mingling, mostly because if it's right before the show there won't be that much time available.
But, who knows until the first VIP concert people report here :)

I know this is a totally different band, but I have VIP tickets for Hedley for in two weeks, and its the same with the meet and greet before. If you wanted I could let you know what that was like... I'm sure they're all kind of the same?

The Barenaked Package is the first time it's been done for BNL, but that's not to say they haven't done meet and greets. Typically it has been a "get in line" and spend a minute or so with the band saying hello, and lately (with the advent of digital cameras) have someone at the record company or management take a photo for you, but that said, it's been been at a hundred dollar premium to attend before. It wouldn't surprise me either way if they spent a bit more time because of it (and because hopefully there aren't that many people who bought the package), or if it's exactly the same.
There might also be meet and greeters from other things (radio contests, etc) which may or may not be tossed into the same meet and greet.

I just wish I would get some emailed details about our meet and greet in 4 days!!!
Just got the e-mail for the Meet & Greet in Calgary on April 8th. Show starts at 8:00 here.
Hello Barenaked Ladies Fan!
Thanks for purchasing a Barenaked VIP Package for your upcoming Barenaked Ladies event on April 8th, 2010! As you know, this package gives you Priority Entry to the venue and access to a special Meet & Greet with the band! Please READ ON for full details!
Please CHECK IN at the box office’s will call window NO LATER than 6:30 PM (30 minutes before the 7:00 PM door time) to pick up your Meet & Greet laminate and Priority Entry wristband. The box office staff will give you further directions for your Priority Entry.
The Meet & Greet will take place AFTER doors have opened and BEFORE Barenaked Ladies’ set. Please congregate in the general vicinity of Barenaked Ladies’ merchandise booth with the other Meet & Greet attendees NO LATER THAN 7:15 PM. Please do not block the merchandise booth, as there needs to be plenty of room for people purchasing items. Also please do not wander off, as a representative of the band will come to you around this time to escort you to the special Meet & Greet. *Your additional package items (t-shirt, signed CD insert) will be mailed separately at a later date. Please note, this may be after the show has occurred.
If cameras are allowed into the venue, you may take a picture with the band (*please contact the venue directly about its camera policy). You will also have the opportunity to have your laminate signed by the band. Remember, you will need a photo ID (we have to know that you are you) and a copy of your order purchase confirmation email in order to gain entry. Please do not arrive late, as late arrivals cannot be guaranteed access to the Meet & Greet. *Please DO NOT ask either the Box Office staff OR venue security about details of Meet & Greet, as they are not associated with this VIP package.*
Enjoy the show and thank you for your continued support!

"Also please do not wander off..." as if you'd be distracted by something else RIGHT BEFORE MEETING THEM.
"Hey I'm waiting to meet BNL, oops gotta go" (Wanders off suddenly to find a restaurant.)

Thanks for posting! Good to know. I'd be more than happy to wait in front of the merchandise booth, if that what they do for the Halifax show. Easy access to BnL merchandise before everyone else gets there? Yes, please!

Did our meet and greet last night (yippee!) I posted the details elsewhere, but I wanted to post it here also for people who dont read the show review. I was most afraid that becasue this was the first show, it would be disorganized. We had to wait quite a bit to get the tickets at will call (it was FREEZING outside!) and then another wait to get in the arena, instead of being let in at 7pm, we didnt get in until about 715. I zoomed right over and bought my tshirt ($30) and sweatshirt ($50), which I will take pics of and post on my photo album (link in the Victoria thread) We were told to meet at 725 at merchandise booth #1, however there was only one booth. We were led backstage and taken to a small curtained waiting room. About 5 minutes later the guys came in and made their way around the room. Couple minutes with wach group, very gracious with pictues and autographs. No one was rushing them, just waited patiently, and the guys all made a delierate attempt to make sure they got to all of us (I counted 17 people, I think) We got done in about 15 minutes with them. Between the picture requests and the signing of the lanyard (all of the guys had black sharpies with then) and us talking about doing the cruise again and them wanting to know which groups we wanted to see again), there were no ackward moments. (Ackward time of my LIFE was when we won the private lunch with the band on the first cruise and for the first 10 minutes it was me and my sis sitting across from Ed and Steve, waiting to order and making randomly ackward small talk. I wanted to die for a little bit, but then really enjoyed myself later!)
All in all I felt it was very worth the extra money, although I would feel weird doing it more than once.
