I like it a lot, too... but I had to take excedrin after watching, myself. LOL!
I am fascinated by the freeze frame people... *drools slightly*

The concept is great, and I think it fits the song perfectly.
Not to mention the performance aspect is amazing - I love how it was shot.
Very emotive, methinks :D

I think I need to watch it again when I'm not tired and suffering with a head cold because I haven't the slightest clue what the non-performance parts of the video are supposed to be about

It's a nice video, although I personally get a "strobe light" effect from some of the still photo sequences that is a bit more jagged than I expected for a mid-tempo emotional semi-ballad. Interesting concept though. Punchbuggy: Lumberjack-Sailor jacket 3 minutes in!

I am noticing you have an affinity for that jacket lol.
Not gonna lie tho, its pretty sweet. I sat there and watched the video and went "AHA! There it is." I think the one he's wearing behind the piano is the other one he had on...cuuuurious.

It is not one of my favorite BNL videos. I found that the stop motion sequences to be a bit unnerving, which does not fit the song in my opinion.

That one I didn't notice. Looks like it is, yeah. That one is decidedly more subtle...

Where the hell does he get these?
Pretty sure Kev has the most interesting collection of jackets ever. LOL.
Not gonna lie. The yellow one is delightfully tacky. It'd look nice with my collection of lumberjack stuff (the toque with the ear flaps, the coat, etc....all of which have seen me through many cold mornings at the barn and at the airport).

Seems to have been shot in Migraine-O-Vision.
But I do like the bit where Jim's bass appears on the plane.
Which reminds me, what the hell is going on in the plane?

LOL!
Thank GOD y'all said something about the movement. I thought, 'oh no, here's another video my little laptop can't handle playing, but at least I can see cool things in the frames since it's moving so slow!'
I'm glad Jim is wearing his helmet, and I'm curious what the pink stuff is in the upper right hand corner of the airplane meal tray. Erasers?!

Everyone running is in a suit, of course, and toward the end Ty and Kevin are sporting some Buddy Holly glasses. I tried to see if the sandwiches were cheese sandwiches, which might be a nod to calcium.
I didn't see the bass on the plane at all. Can't wait till I can watch this slow mode on the TiVo.

I LOVED the performance stuff. I just don't get the other stuff. I could see playing around with that style for an upbeat song, but I just don't feel like it fits this one. Maybe I'm missing the grand meaning. But it could have been really emotionally powerful. Instead, I'm just kind of left going, "huh?" And it hurts my head to view it. But that's just me.

I kind of like it :) It's easier to watch in a smaller format - i.e. not full screen.

I keep wondering why I like it. I like a story, I like progression. In other words, I hated the video for Easy. But this is like a game, like Where's Waldo matched up with What Six Differences Can You Find in this Picture.

Ellen from a pure graphical standpoint, other than making me feel a bit out of control, it is fine. But for me it just does not seem to work with the music.

beautiful review Ellen!!!
Well said!
I quite like the video. Reminds me of the Pinch Me video quite a lot. Some nice shots of the performance. Couldn't they have given Kev's piano top a bit of a polish first? ;)

Having looked it at the vid again, I think it's about how someone running away leaves chaos in their wake and that running may not be the answer - especially as Tyler might hit you with a car!
Being bnl, of course, there are plenty of jokes in the animated sections - which could be a little smoother I think - and I like: Tyler asleep in the chaos in the plane, Tyler making use of a sick bag on the plane, Kevin being comically elbowed in the face on the plane; and, best of all, Jim calmly playing his violin bass on the plane.
There's even a laugh to be had in the moody performance section - check out Kevin, his self-deprecating and amused twinkle and smile at 3.18ish... which amuses me anyway.
Also, there are two interesting things for the conspiracy theorists and I-am-probably-reading-way-too-much-into-this people amongst us (I think I am in the latter group), the final scene in the animated scene shows the runner sitting to talk things out with Ed and, is it just me, or is Ed in the performance scenes occupying both the stage-right and stage-left positions?

Someone else pointed this out on .net, and I think it's an excellent observation that I missed! Intentional or not, it's muy interesting. :)

I like it. It could be quite a very somber video but it's not - instead it engages your brain in the stop motion / freeze frame stuff (I keep thinking of the camera they were using during the recent awards shows where they can take a snap shot and then zoom around in it). I think the scenes are interesting and I really like the eye catching colors - be it the one guy's shirt or the fishnets or the blue chairs etc etc. Just a lot of colors and patterns that catch the eye as well as the frozen/moving scenes.

lol ooh let the conspiracy theories begin :p I just re-watched it (I know, darn) and that effect is running through the whole video. The camera pans and Ed goes off to the left and reappears quickly on the right so I didn't take it as any more than that.
But I just loved seeing THEM in a video again - so two thumbs up :D

I didn't like the stop motion parts of the video but I like the performace part.
Here's a little "behind the scenes" video of You Run Away...
Admittedly, it's not as good as the title may suggest - I have wanted to see a "making of" of this video ever since I first watched it - and I guess this is *kinda* it... but it is filmed by one of the extras on set so is largely orientated towards his POV of the video making, rather than as a whole, so band footage is limited.
There are, however, a few cool shots of the band, and it's interesting - on the performance part - to see Ed and Jim running around the set like loonies... I guess it explains how they appear everywhere in the video (or at least, in places where you don't expect to see them - i.e. they are on the left, then the right, etc - bit of a head-trip).
It's nearly 10 minutes long so I don't really recommend watching it all the way through because you certainly don't see enough of the band to warrant that time spent - but hey, if you're bored, check it out:

That video wasn't too bad, Liam. Could've been better though. When they dubbed in the music, it was far too loud!

From 6:59 to 7:48 there is no music, and they show the dolly that takes the series of photos.
Funny the first five times I watched it I never noticed everyone but BNL was young. And gorgeous.

I agree the music was far too loud! You could not hear what anyone was saying! But it was nice to get a glimpse behind the scenes at everything that went on! Watching them run around the camera during the "performance" portion was interesting; trying to figure that part out!
Jim saying "cheeeeeeese" at the guy about 4:40 in was pretty hilarious! And who was Ed talking about not being in the shot about 6:45 in? ;) That part cracked me up! :D
