Well it depends what you are wanting to do and what sort of fun you are looking for as to what to do. The weather can be iffy in April so not sure if you want to plan any outdoor activities but if it is nice out there are things to do.

Lake Louise can easily turn into an all day trip. It is about 1.5 hours, maybe a bit more. There isn't much to see but what there is is really beautiful. The Fairmont Lake Louise is a nice place to walk thru and the lake is a great photo op! Shopping - my area of expertise...
depending on where you are staying there are great malls in each quadrant of the city except the northeast.

But iled Lake Louise is so beautiful! Grab some stuff to make lunch and have a picnic. The ground should be a bit thawed by then right?:)

It is a great photo op! There isn't much to see other than the lake and the hotel but it is beautiful. I would definitely make the trip there, but then again I go way off the path while on vacation just for a picture of something. As long as you've got a day to spare then by all means make the trek. There is often skiing up until the May longweekend so it still might be a bit chilly plus once you get in the mountains it is much cooler than Calgary.

iled I would agree it is all a matter of what you enjoy the most. For me the scenery of Lake Louise would probably win over other things if on limited time. But I did say a bit thawed, followed by a smiley face. I remember Montana very well, which I believe has weather similar to Lake Louise, and April is still pretty much winter!

yup, the scenery is second to none.....(well maybe the blue caribbean sea) especially if you have never seen the mountains. I am born and raised here and still marvel at the sight of them even from parts of Calgary where you can see them.

I love going out to Banff to see things. Shopping well if you are renting a car anyway you may want to go check out the new Cross Iron mills mall just outside the city. It is massive but kind of cool to go through. You could visit Calgary Olympic Park to see where the 88 games were held and see some of the bad fashion from the 80's. There is the Calgary Tower which is touristy thing to go do right downtown. Lots of Tim Horton's every where so I am sure you can find one of those.

I just got to say how pathetic the Calgary Tower is... it doesn't tower over much :P

Trendy shopping can be done in Kensington, my favorite part of town.

My grandparents honeymooned in Banff.. thats the main reason I want to trek there. Im from Utah so Im not afraid of cold or mountain roads. We also have all the Olympic stuff here so Olympic park probably wouldnt be that big a thrill for me. Any really fun bars? Also I will liekly priceline my hotel, so what areas are good to stay in as far as nightlife and shopping type activites go?

The night life here is on 11th Avenue SW and 17th Avenue SW

Im not into the club scene, but lots go to The Whiskey, Tantra, Vinyl, all on 11th ave (formerly known as electric avenue)

If you like pubs/bars then 17th Ave is the place, known as the Red Mile, seen during our last Cup run! Its got Melrose, 1404, Ship and Anchor, and countless others...its a fun place with tons and tons of pubs/bars. Starting at 1st SW to 14th St SW.

On 8th Ave SW there is Flames Central, always something going on down there.

For places to stay downtown. Hotel Arts, Westin, Marriot, Sheraton, Delta, 5, Palliser, The International, Sandman. They are all great.

Looking forward to meeting you before the show! Too bad the Jubilee isn't downtown, I am trying to think of a place over by the Jube where we can all get together...its a very large crowd. I have 6 incl myself and hubby in my party.

Staying at Motel Village would be handy for the Jube. Best Western Village Park Inn is one that comes to mind plus I know there are some cheaper ones there. This are is quite close to the venue and easy access to get to other places. If you have a map of Calgary is it on Crowchild Trail just north of 16th ave in the NW.
Kensington would be a great place to walk around, and as NiceyDoodle says, 17th ave has it all...shopping, bars and restaurants! Ooooh, you will have fun!
