View Full Version : The new Ladies Room

So remember the days when the Ladies Room was free? Well, after some serious consideration, I thought that yeah, I would show my support for the 'new look' ladies, and buy my membership. But then I got to checkout. It appears that BNL chose a US company to manage the new Ladies Room, and as such, Canadians, who long supported this band before anyone else even heard of them, pay a premium. WHY guys? I did not see it identified, but I am willing to bet that you are paying in US dollars. As well, the only shipping choices are US or International, and International is double the US cost - total cost for a Canadian $55!!

Wow boys, I am so insulted, I am not even going to come to the show. Hard to believe the last show in Calgary, you each posed with my son for a picture and now we won't even go to your show.

I can't believe no one's brought this up on the board yet.

Well, obviously the band is completely dictating how their fan club is run and how much it charges, so I'd say they're pretty much raping you in the you-know-where. Those photos of the guys with your sons are blatant lies, now, and should rightly be burned.

Yeah I hear you. My son has been a fan since about 5 years old and we worked really hard to get backstage in the Saddledome and the guys all posed for a photo. You know, they were great in person and so I am just shocked by this. I was actually hoping to get them autographed this concert but burning them might be the right solution.

Flames, any thoughts on Obama?

I guess I should have read the Band forum first as I see this topic was a hot discussion yesterday in that forum. I just didn't think that was the right place so put my 2 cents in here so now I get your sarcasm Garyrulez.

Don't get me wrong, I don't care about the price. In the old Ladies Room, presale tickets were all sold in US dollars if I recall so I paid a premium to get my tickets in Canada in advance. This is really about a Canadian band using a company that will charge Canadians a premium to become a member. Let's get real, it does not cost the same to ship to Canada as it does to India. As someone that has been a Ladies Room member for as long as I can remember, the timing is disappointing and I just wonder if the band has lost touch with its Canadian fans. After all, they are playing a WAY smaller venue in Calgary than they have since Maybe You Should Drive. 15000 seats to 3000 seats so maybe they know. btw, Steven Page had a very successful show here last year.

I think Obama rocks. Best President in years in some aspects, although still early to say for sure. Taking my first trip to DC later this year because of him......

So, are you serious about not going to anymore shows and everything?

You haven't heard? Canadians are pushovers and we never fight back. Well I personally am tired of it. I supported this band when they travelled in a van and were little known. I have 2 kids that are big fans so I do not buy one ticket to a show, but several. One tour, I think back in the late 90's, we sat one row behind Ed's wife. Another tour, as I mentioned, we got backstage and the guys posed for pictures. We managed to get tickets to a private show 2 years ago with Jay Leno, and again met the band out the back door and got autographs. We also paid for front row tickets at a show in LA a few years ago even though we had tickets in Calgary. I have supported these guys in good times and bad, and yes, I am so disappointed that I am being treated this way, I will not support them anymore. It may seem foolish, but the band needs to hear a message. Unfortunately, they might think it all has to do with Steve, and not how they have treated us. Fans are like customers, and any business can make mistakes to lose customers. There are lots of other bands out there.

You're absolutely right: if you, as the consumer, choose not to pay for a product anymore- whatever the reason- than the company (or band) producing that product has to make changes. Voting with your dollars, as you might say.

That's the beauty of capitalism: BNL is not a charity; they are (rightfully) in this gig at least in part because of the money, and you are the one who chooses whether or not to give them any.

You haven't heard??? I love the guy!

Seriously (and sorry about the sarcasm earlier- I had a completely bad angle on where you were coming from), I'm not a fan: in fact, I'm mystified as to what people saw in him in the first place, other than a great speaking ability and good looks. To me, he's delivered 100% on the substance of what he promised during his campaign, which was absolutely nothing.

I think I, like many Americans, saw his speaking ability, and being soooooo anti-Bush (my apologies if you liked him), I saw him as a refreshing change. He is very charismatic which carries him far.

However, I have dealt with many ignorant Americans ("nothing good has ever come from Canada") on various forums like this and I really get the impression that Canada-US relations has gone backwards since he became President. Current travel restrictions for us across the border is a perfect example - I think he has no idea how bad the tourism industry is going to be impacted and may be the one thing that prevents me from travelling there. I think Hilary would have been handling things alot differently and Edwards might have offered more to Americans but might have hurt international relations. Ironically, I find the Democrats present much better leadership choices even though my fundamentals in Canada line up with the Republicans.

That's great stuff, Flame. Really great stuff.

You should try your best to avoid John Edwards, though: I don't know how old your kids are, but I got a paternity test on mine just to be on the safe side.

hahahaha, well I don't recall Edwards being here, but Clinton has been several times. Might have to check on my daughter.

While I haven't done the math, I'm thinking the difference in cost is just a conversion of US dollars to Canadian dollars? I can't remember, but back when I paid for LR membership, was it technically cheaper for me to purchase it? I don't recall any exchange consideration then. It just cost what it cost. And I was willing to pay it.

I never noticed any shipping charge difference, either. Just because they are using a company based in the US doesn't make them any less Canadian.

In my opinion, this seems like a pretty minor thing to break off fandom. Your loss.

I agree on the surreal comment -
And speaking of comments... I am fairly certain that this forum has a Private Message function -

If you are going off topic on a thread ((waaaaay) off topic- in my humble opionion) maybe you might consider a Private Message?

Or posting your conversations in a New Misc. Category more fitting to your chosen topic instead...

cynical, that MIGHT be appropriate, if, frankly, this entire thread wasn't just a joke to begin with, posted by a member posing as someone else for comedic value.

one thing we liked about the old ladies room ...there were no extra charges...so we considered the membership fee a freedom from ticketbastard charges...i dont know how the new room will be...will wait and see...

I always try to give the benefit of the doubt, too. But the dollars are way too close right now for currency conversion to account for more than about a buck or so on this amount. (Sorry, a loonie or so!) Everyone who "adjusts prices for currency" is stuck in the wrong decade when the CAD was worth about $0.60USD. Parity is projected again for sometime this year.

I emailed them a while back...here's the response:

"Mallory,

You will be getting an email a week prior to the show where/how you will be
receiving your membership package elements. Thank you.

Regards,
The Ladies Room"

I guess that works only for people who ordered the membership with their tickets. Hmmm.

I haven't received anything, either. I signed up the day the new fan club was announced. I figure I'll give them six weeks, since the packages appear to be coming from the US.
