I have always been a huge fan of James Taylor and it certainly does not hurt that fandom when you get this kind of news.

Second Haiti Benefit Show Added

Tickets to James Taylor's just-announced benefit concert for Haiti sold out in 90 minutes this morning, raising $150,000 for Partners in Health, which Taylor and his wife, Kim, then matched, making the total amount raised so far to benefit the people of Haiti: $300,000. Upon hearing news of the sold out concert, Mr. Taylor volunteered to donate his services for a second show on Saturday, January 23 at 8 pm. "The need in Haiti is so great and our community in the Berkshires is so generous. Performing another concert is the least I can do and, fortunately, the Mahaiwe is free the next night," he said.

Tickets to "Help for Haiti: An Intimate Evening with James Taylor" are $100 (balcony), $200 (orchestra and mezzanine), and $1,000 (golden circle including private post-show reception with the artists) and will go on sale on Wednesday, January 20 at 9 am at Mahaiwe.org and in person at the Mahaiwe Box Office (14 Castle Street in Great Barrington, MA). No phone sales are available for this concert. Limit four tickets per person.

Mr. Taylor will be joined by his longtime singers Kate Markowitz, Arnold McCuller, his wife, Kim Taylor, and Boston Symphony Orchestra cellist Owen Young.

Partners In Health (PIH) has been working on the ground in Haiti for over 20 years. The organization works to bring modern medical care to poor communities in nine countries around the world. The work of PIH has three goals: to care for patients, to alleviate the root causes of disease in their communities, and to share lessons learned around the world. Based in Boston, PIH employs more than 11,000 people worldwide, including doctors, nurses, and community health workers. The vast majority of PIH staff are local nationals based in the communities they serve.

Ahhh hard decisions to make for sure. I am thinking the 11th, but I do not remember for sure.

I really wish Gaelic Storm would come back this way.

Not for me. I find remixes by and large awful. "My Generation" is already a great song, how can they improve on it ? Its like someone throwing an extra coat of paint on the Mona Lisa.

I guess to me shell it is not about making it better, it more about making it their own. I absolutely love some covers of songs, not usually more than the original, but still great songs.

100.3 The Sound If you haven't seen it yet... this is supposedly The Who's set list for their Super Bowl performance. It will include snippets of "Baba O'Riley," "Pinball Wizard," "Tommy," "Won't Get Fooled Again" and "Who Are You."

I find it hilarious that in order to "clean up" the image of the Super Bowl halftime show, they went out and got themselves a registered sex offender.

I had not heard that before gary. I really pay no attention to the Super Bowl. We usually record it and fast forward to commercials.

Michael Jackson's children to take stage at awards
http://www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/Music/01/28/michael.jackson.family/index.html?hpt=T2

The interesting part of this article is towards the end involving a prior lawsuit. From a legal perspective it is interesting.

If you're partyin' in Huntington Beach this weekend you better find a new drink game - beer pong has been outlawed! Beer pong, for those not aware, is played on a ping pong table where cups of beer are placed on either end of the table and the object of the game is hit the ping pong ball into your opponents cup... They then must drink the contents. The Huntington Beach City Council and Law Enforcement officials feel Beer Pong and drinking games of that nature "encourages excessive drinking and is not in the best interest of the community". [KTLA]

I guess Guster won't be visiting Huntington Beach. I am sorry but this story just made me angry. Come on don't these legislators have something more important to deal with?

I have worked for a City as a City Attorney for 12 years and I can say no, they really don't have anything better to do...You wouldn't believe some of the things they come up with! :)
