...Very, very good. From Bill Lamb, About.com's Top 40/Pop music critic:

This may qualify as my first big pop music surprise of the new year. It has been 10 years since Canada's Barenaked Ladies last made a major dent on the US pop singles chart with "Pinch Me." Recent years have been difficult for the band with personal issues and changes in management. Most recently co-founding member Steven Page left the band. Barenaked Ladies are now recording as a four piece. However, if the new song "You Run Away" is an indication, all of the turmoil has been an outstanding catalyst for quality music from the group. The new song is instantly memorable in the fashion of Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars." Listen and keep a close watch. With the right breaks, we just might see Barenaked Ladies in year end lists for 2010. The 11th studio album for the group All in Good Time is set to hit stores March 30, 2010.

Is that ABOUT.COM or ABOOT.COM ?

In America, it's "About.com". In Canada, it's "Aboot.ca".

In America, it's "About.com". In Canada, it's "Aboot.ca".

But no mention in The Beaver.
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (Reuters) – Canada's second-oldest magazine, The Beaver, is changing its name because its unintended sexual connotation has caused the history journal to become snagged in Internet filters and has turned off potential readers.

Another review, from Canada's RockstarWeekly.com:

Barenaked Ladies New Single Perfectly Executed

You Run Away showcases guitarist/vocalist Ed Robertson is a new light, in a beautifully written and perfectly executed poem of missed opportunities and remorse. The production is slick and serves as a great introduction to the post-Steven Page BNL. Page left the band in early 2009 to pursue a solo career.

Good, more positive press!

So I was thinking. Do you think they'll make a video for this one? Have they ever not made a video for a released single? Sorry, I fell asleep with VH1 (which I have not watched in years) and woke up to actual videos. It was refreshing-for I have not seen an actual video in a long time. I didn't know they were still played.....

And if they do decide to make a video...umm how do you think they would 'represent' the song?Just a fun thought... I know we'll figure out the answers in time!!!

It's so nice to read the good stuff. I don't want to wish away my days, but March 30th seems a long way off. :)

I think after the single comes out, there will be more press...I'll keep my eyes open!

Yes, they said they're shooting it tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 29) in Minneapolis.

Well, this is pretty cool: You Run Away will enter Billboard's Adult Pop top 40 next week at number 40...and the song hasn't even been released yet.

First Billboard chart entry for BNL since 2004.

What do you mean, "the song hasn't been released yet?" People have been hearing it on the radio for a while... Is that not the same thing?

Meaning, you can't actually buy it yet, which is one of the things that figures into the ranking. If the single had been on sale, it would have probably have debuted even higher.

Ahhh, thanks for explaining it to me :)

Hopefully it can have a good crack on the charts once it's out from the 2nd onwards.

I can't imagine how much it is playing in Canada/the States... is it a lot? I guess it depends on location, but as a UKer I have no sense of how it's doing so in general is it receiving a lot of play?

Liam, I don't listen to the radio ever, but making the Billboard charts before even being released is a huge sign that it's getting radio airplay, since that's the only thing it had to get on the chart.

That is awesome news! Not getting airplay here yet, but if it's top 40, it should get picked up very soon on at least one of the stations here. :D

It apparently played on Virgin 96 at 1:53pm, but I only tuned in at about 2.

Sorry I didn't mean to post that twice, the board has been quite slow for me recently so I must have clicked submit twice or something.

Great news about the radio play though, is it realistic to expect it might chart in the official Billboard (or whatever the most popular chart is) over there?

Sorry, I was just kidding...

I have no clue. It's very hard to get past the massive wall of Lady Gaga's, Ke$ha's, and all those mass-appeal singers into the Top 40.

I hear that gary. The station that is hosting them in Sunday is called TheSound, and so far I love their mix, from The Cure, to Beatles, to Lou Reed.

One of our radio stations is hosting "Breakfast in Barbados" with musical guests New Kids on the Block and Barenaked Ladies. Trying to win that...anyways...they maybe playing it on there, but I have trouble not listening to my cds!

You know, I really like Lady Gaga. I'm sad that her songs are so over produced, she's one of the few that has actual talent (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laIr_d0hFB8).
