I know this thread is a bit random and might not make for a lot of conversation, but honestly? Look at this: http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m196/DanLedoux/LOLSteve.png
While I do find it funny, how can someone possibly think he's still in the band? He's not even on the cover. Probably should have been their first hint.
Hahahaha! I think I just found that way too funny.:D

Haha it is. I just can't believe they didn't notice he's not on the album.

Surely also if they'd listened to the album they'd realise he doesn't sing on any of the songs

Or if they paid any attention to the faces on the album cover....

I realise that. But what I'm saying is the fan obviously didn't notice from the cover or the music itself.

What I don't understand is that they saw him in person, and saw what he looks like, yet didn't even notice he's not on the cover. They could have been a new fan, so maybe they didn't notice his voice. When I first became a BNL fan it took me a little while to learn the difference between Ed and Steve's voice.

some people, myself included, can be slow on the uptake.
for example, i had Gordon for ?over a year? before i realized if you look at the (original) cover, you can figure out who Ed is by process of elimination via their nick names in Grade9.
go figure.

What I'm getting at is that this fan obviously recognises Steve as a member of the band. The last album he had a contribution to was Snacktime, which was out two years previous to AIGT. So that means they would have had two years to familiarise them self with the members of the band and their voices. I don't know if that makes sense. It does in my head :P
Unless this fan just recognised him as "that bloke out of Barenaked Ladies" and tried to get him to sign something.

I think you guys are giving far too much credit to the typical Wolf's Den/Mohegan patron. This show was a free show in a very popular casino. There are people who literally DON'T CARE who the performer is, but will go stand in line to meet the performer and get stuff signed. Why? Because it's FREE. I'm quite positive that one of these free show junkies asked someone "Who is Steven Page?" and was told "He used to be in BNL". So they probably walked down to the record store and grabbed the first BNL cd they saw, just so that they'd have something for him to sign. They probably used their free credits to pay for it too, so it didn't cost them a dime.
You should have seen the idiots grabbing handfuls of passes when BNL played the free show in 2006. Most of them were just walking by and noticed there was something free being handed out, so they just grabbed them. Only about 15 "real" fans (meaning people who knew about BNL & purposely had gotten in line) managed to get tickets bc they'd unexpectedly gave all the tickets out at 7am. @@

Steve has a great sense of humor. Hell, I'd have him sign my copy of AIGT.
I remember that BNL Wolf Den performance. Weren't the tickets supposed to be handed out at 2pm or something? I remember leaving work early because we were going to drive down and try our luck. I was disappointed to get there and find out they had handed out the tickets early in the morning.

my question is How many of them have become real fans because of it?

They kept changing their mind because they'd never booked that large an act for the Wolf's Den, and additionally they'd given out all but 50 of the tickets for high rollers, etc. I was planning on heading down around 9am or so, but I was having trouble sleeping, so I just headed down ridiculously early and got there at 6am. At 7am, when the line was maybe 10 people long, they first said they'd be giving out wristbands at 9am. But a short time later without warning, they came out and began handing them out right then, and they wouldn't even give you an additional one for a friend. Of the 4 people I was planning on going with, only one other got there in time to get a wristband, and that was only by the skin of her teeth, running through the casino like crazy to grab one.
As for the people who weren't fans that night who went for free because they were walking by at the right moment, I'd be highly surprised if any of them went on to purchase tickets to another show. I go to Mohegan a lot for WNBA games and I spend a lot of time around the typical Mohegan patrons. Outside of Friday/Saturday nights when they get younger people going to the clubs, the majority of customers are people who make a game out of trying to get as much for free as possible from the casino. They track the free coffee they can get at X location, the shirts that are handed out at Y, and the match play tickets they can get from Z. Since the casino has free entertainment every night (though rarely on the level of BNL), there's never a reason that they'd need to spend money to buy tickets anywhere else. Some of those people work at saving the money so they can spend it on their slot machines, etc, but some are just really frugal and look at the casino as a cheap source of entertainment.

kinda like, if my MYSD promo poster wasn't lost in our fire 6 yrs ago, i'd be more than happy to have Kevin sign it just as much as i would have Andy.... and everyone else.
